Intercity trains are express trains complementing the offer of the higher-quality "Le Frecce" trains (Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca). The trains mainly operate on the coastal lines to from Milan and Turin down to the very south of Italy (running to Rome and beyond to Naples, Reggio die Calabria and Sicily as well as to Ancona, Bari and Lecce) and from Rome to Venice, Udine and Trieste.

Trains consist of refurbished conventional carriages, running up to 200 km/h. All trains are air-conditioned, have power sockets and offer 2nd and 1st class seats (some trains only have 2nd class seats). In 1st class you will comfortable seats with lots of space either in six-seat compartments or in open-plan carriages with three seats per row (2+1 seats). In 2nd class, most carriages are six-seat compartment cars, however on most trains one carriage is an open-plan carriages with four seats per row (2+2 seats) and facilites for the disabled.
