BelgiqueThe engineer André Waterkeyn built the Atomium for the World Expo of 1958.
It was initially not intended to keep it after the World Expo. But it was so popular after it, that they kept it like they did with the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The Atomium symbolizes an iron crystal molecule at the level of its atoms in 165 billion times magnification. It is built entirely of steel.
From 2003/2004, the Atomium was renovated for over one year and finally reopened on 18 February 2006. It now offers the visitors a tour of new impressions spheres.
