1b Travelling from Patras (Greece) to Ancona (Italy)

Travel from Patras to Ancona by ferry. The journey time is 22 hours. The ticket price starts at 70 EUR. The ferry companies Superfast Ferries, ANEK Lines and Grimaldi Lines serve this route.

You will find these service categories on board of the ferry:

- seats: standard inclinable seats which are the cheapest travel option
- shared cabins with beds: you share the cabin and the shower and toilet with other travellers.
- private cabins: from standard to luxury cabins with private bed, shower and toilet. This is the best option if you want privacy, travel with your family or friends.

The check-in time is two hours prior to departure.

How to get in Patras from the the train station to the ferry port:
You have to get from the railway station to the „New Port“ of Patras, which is 2 kilometres in the south of the railway station. Either walk within 30 minutes along the promenade or use the bus line number 18. It is a journey time of 10 minutes with hourly departures. The bus ticket price is 1,20 EUR.
In Patras you have a second port: the North Port which serves ferry routes to the Ionian Sea. Take bus line 18 or walk from there to the railway station within 10 minutes. The railway station is in the middle of both ports.

How to get in Ancona from the ferry port to the train station:
It is a distance of 2 kilometres from Ancona ferry port to the railway station. You can either walk which will take about 30 minutes. Or you travel by bus line number 12 or 20. Frequent departures are available. The bus journey time is 10 minutes. You will depart from „Ancona Ferries Terminal“, the arrival place of all ferry companies. The bus ticket price is 1.50 EUR. Show your boarding pass and you may travel for free.

1c Travelling from Ancona (Italy) to Paris (France)

To travel from Italy to France, the main hub to leave Italy is Milan. Milan is very well connected to most regions of Italy. On the main travel route to France, from Milan to Marseille and Paris, you have frequent direct trains.

1d Travelling from Paris (France) to Libramont (Belgium)

TGV inoui high-speed-trains connect many French cities with Belgium (Brussels). The Thalys high-speed-train connects Paris with Brussels in 2:20 hours. In addition, there are many regional train connections from Lille (France) across the border to Belgium. In Belgium there are connections with InterCity and regional trains.

2b Travelling from Thessaloniki (Greece) to Belgrade (Serbia)

Travel from Thessaloniki to Belgrade by direct overnight train. The journey time is 14 hours.

Important note: this direct overnight train only runs in the summer months June to September. If the this train is not available you have to travel from Thessaloniki to Sofia. And from Sofia to Belgrade. Please search for these train connections to find details.

The departure time in Thessaloniki is 18:50. The arrival time in Belgrade (Topcider) is 08:40.

The overnight train offers one wagon with seats and one couchette-car with 6 beds per compartment. The couchette-car is recommended. Buy train tickets for 35 EUR. The supplement for the couchette-car is 8 EUR per person. Usually there is enough free seats and berths available even on the day of departure. Ask the conductor to optimize the occupancy of the couchette compartments if you want to have more space. Just be friendly.

2c Travelling from Belgrade (Serbia) to Budapest (Hungary)

Travel from Serbia to Hungary by direct train on the route from Belgrade, Novi Sad to Budapest.

There are saver fare tickets available from 15 EUR.

2021: the direct route Belgrade, Novi Sad to Budapest is under construction. The best option is to travel by train from Belgrade to Zagreb and from Zagreb to Budapest if you want to avoid changes and buses.

2d Travelling from Budapest (Hungary) to Vienna (Austria)

Travel from Budapest to Vienna by Railjet train with a journey time of 2,5 hours. The ticket prices start from 14 EUR in second class and from 24 EUR in first class. Austrian railways ÖBB offers saver-fares called "Sparschiene". Book early to get these discounted tickets.

Departure is in Budapest at the railway station "Budapest Keleti". You arrive at Vienna central train station called "Wien Hauptbahnhof".

2e Travelling from Vienna (Austria) to Cologne (Germany)

Travel from Vienna to Cologne by direct ICE day train connection or more comfortable by "ÖBB nightjet" overnight train.

The journey time by ICE train connection is 8:45 hours. Train tickets are available from 37 EUR. The departure times in Vienna are 11:15, 13:15 and 15:15. The arrival times in Cologne main station are at 20:00, 22:00 and 00:00.

The overnight train "ÖBB nightjet" NJ40490 offers the following service classes:
- Seats. Tickets fares from 29 EUR.
- Couchettes: compartments with berths for 4 or 6 passengers. Tickets fares from 49 EUR.
- Sleeper-car: private compartments for 1 to 3 passengers with washing basin and optional private shower and toilet. Tickets fares from 69 EUR.

The journey time is 10:35 hours. The departure time in Vienna is 20:15. The arrival time in Cologne is 06:50.
