1b Travelling from Cologne (Germany) to Vienna (Austria)
Travel from Cologne to Vienna by direct day train connection or more comfortable by overnight train.
The journey time by ICE day train connection is 8:50 hours. Train tickets are available from 37 EUR. The departure times in Cologne are 07:50 and 09:50. The arrival times in Vienna main station at 16:45 and 18:45.
The overnight train "ÖBB nightjet" offers the following service classes:
- Seats. Tickets fares from 29 EUR.
- Couchettes: compartments with berths for 4 or 6 passengers. Tickets fares from 49 EUR.

To travel from Belgium to Germany by train, use the high-speed-trains ICE or Thalys. They connect the cities of Brussels and Liege with Cologne and Frankfurt. These cities are well connected to other regions in their countries.

Saver price tickets called "Sparpreis Europa" offer very attractive ticket fares from 39 EUR. These tickets are valid for routes from Germany via either Czech Republic and Slovakia or via Austria to Hungary.
If it is not possible to book a ticket until your final destination, buy a second one from Budapest to your destination from Hungarian railways MAV.

2c Travelling from Budapest (Hungary) to Sfântu Gheorghe (Romania)
To travel from Hungary to Romania by train, buy your train tickets from Hungarian railway MAV START. They offer a variety of discounts for one way and return journeys as well as the cheap advance fare "Fortuna" tickets. Online tickets from MAV START have to be printed from ticket machines at stations in Hungary! Of course you can buy all tickets at international ticket desks at stations in Hungary as well.
International services run mainly from Budapest via the Lököshaza/Curtici border crossing to Arad and from there either to Timisoara and onwards to Craiova and Bucharest or via Simeria - Sibiu/Sighisoara - Brasov to Bucharest. Additional international express trains run via the Biharkresztes/Episcopia Bihor border crossing to Oradea - Cluj Napoca - Brasov.
