1a Travelling from Ankara (Turkey) to Istanbul (Turkey)
Travel from Ankara to Istanbul by direct high-speed-train. The journey time is 4:30 hours. The train ticket prices start from 75 TRY (9 EUR) in 2nd class and 105 TRY in 1st class (12 EUR).
On the train journey from Ankara to Istanbul you will travel by a "Yüksek Hızlı Tren" (YHT) high-speed-train with a top-speed of 250 km/h. There are at least six train connections daily. The travel distance is 530 kilometres. You have to be at the train platform at least 15 minutes before departure due to X-ray scan of your luggage.
The deparutre station is Ankara central railway station.
The arrival train stations are "Istanbul Pendik" and "Istanbul Söğütlüçeşme". You reach "Sirkeci" station by Marmaray suburban train from "Söğütlüçeşme" station. Frequent trains every 10 minutes. The journey time is 10 minutes for a ticket fare of less than 1 EUR.
"Istanbul Haydarpaşa" is under construction and maybe the YHT will start from there as well one day.

1b Travelling from Istanbul (Turkey) to Thessaloniki (Greece)
Travel from Turkey to Greece by bus. There exists no direct train connection anymore. If you want to travel by train, travel from Istanbul to Sofia (Bulgaria) and from there to Thessaloniki. But it takes a lot more time than by bus.
There are several direct (overnight) bus connections available from Istanbul (Turkey) to bigger Greek cities (Athens, Thessaloniki, ...). Find bus and train schedules via the booking links provided.

1d Travelling from Patras (Greece) to Ancona (Italy)
Travel from Patras to Ancona by ferry. The journey time is 22 hours. The ticket price starts at 70 EUR. The ferry companies Superfast Ferries, ANEK Lines and Grimaldi Lines serve this route.
You will find these service categories on board of the ferry:
- seats: standard inclinable seats which are the cheapest travel option
- shared cabins with beds: you share the cabin and the shower and toilet with other travellers.
- private cabins: from standard to luxury cabins with private bed, shower and toilet. This is the best option if you want privacy, travel with your family or friends.
The check-in time is two hours prior to departure.
How to get in Patras from the the train station to the ferry port:
You have to get from the railway station to the „New Port“ of Patras, which is 2 kilometres in the south of the railway station. Either walk within 30 minutes along the promenade or use the bus line number 18. It is a journey time of 10 minutes with hourly departures. The bus ticket price is 1,20 EUR.
In Patras you have a second port: the North Port which serves ferry routes to the Ionian Sea. Take bus line 18 or walk from there to the railway station within 10 minutes. The railway station is in the middle of both ports.
How to get in Ancona from the ferry port to the train station:
It is a distance of 2 kilometres from Ancona ferry port to the railway station. You can either walk which will take about 30 minutes. Or you travel by bus line number 12 or 20. Frequent departures are available. The bus journey time is 10 minutes. You will depart from „Ancona Ferries Terminal“, the arrival place of all ferry companies. The bus ticket price is 1.50 EUR. Show your boarding pass and you may travel for free.
