The Dresden Funicular Railway up to the "Körnerplatz" in the city distric "Weißer Hirsch". At the top station there is the restaurant "Luisenhof". Whose porch is because of the lovely view of the Dresden Elbe Valley also called the "Balcony of Dresden". Update: the restaurant will be closed from 01 July 2015.

East of the "Körnerplatz" at the "Pillnitzer Landstraße" (street) is located the valley station of the "Schwebebahn Dresden" (in english language: suspension railways. It is a kind of hanging monorail.) With it you can reach within a few minutes "Oberloschwitz", from where you can enjoy a wonderful view.

The Rose Garden ("Rosengarten") is a landscaped garden at the Neustadt bank of the Elbe in Dresden. The rose garden is open all year round with free entrance.

The Pillnitz Castle and the Park are worth a day trip. You have to pay an entrance fee. Buy a combined ticket for the price of 8 EUR (Castle + Park). If you just want to walk through the park, it is cheaper. There is a ticket for 2 EUR. That's still affordable, I think. There are piers in Pillnitz for cruise boats and (at an other place) a ferry.

Not far from the center are three castles next to each other on the "Elbhang". These are the "Schloss Eckberg" (Castle Eckberg), "Schloss Albrechtsberg" (Castle Albrechtsberg) and the "Lingner Schloss" ("Schloss" means castle). The view from thence to the city of Dresden and the surrounding is picture-postcard beautiful. On good weather you have a view even to the Saxon Switzerland ("Sächsischen Schweiz"). While "Schloss Eckberg" and "Schloss Albrechtsberg" are very fine, the restaurant at "Lingner Schloss" is more for "people's" (with garden restaurant) - the Lingnerterrassen.

Located right on the Elbe Cycle Path ("Elberadweg"). From the beer garden you can enjoy a good view of the river Elbe. If you can get a window table in the restaurant, you also have a good view of the river. *** Opening times *** open daily from 11:00 h

The cafe (and restaurant) in the picture gallery (even without visiting the exhibition accessible). In summer you can sit outside. From the café you have the (perhaps?) the most beautiful views of the theater square. However, the restaurant has high prices. The freshly squeezed orange juice is unreasonably expensive. At the banks of the Elbe, directly on the ferry from/to Dresden-Neustadt and on the Elbe cycle path. Sitting on the River Elbe and enjoy. Easy to reach by foot from the city center (about 2 km).

The largest park in Dresden. Very nice also the Carolasee (lake with boat rental).

The installations "views of Dresden were installed in 2008 in the context of the training project "in the footsteps of Canaletto - cityscapes with the camera obscura". Three historical Dresden views by the Venetian painter Bernardo Bellotto (1722-1780), known as Canaletto, were marked by installations in the form of stylized easels. Here one can perceive the view from this particular perspective.

Located directly on the banks of the Elbe and immediately adjacent to the passenger ferry in Niederpoyritz. Located right on the banks of the Elbe, below the Loschwitz Bridge (the so-called "Blue Wonder") on Elbe Cycle Path. Cosy restaurant and large beer garden. Good selection of food and drinks at reasonable prices and in good quality. We have been here several times as a guest (both indoors and outdoors). *** Opening times *** open daily from 11:00h to 01:00h *** My Opinion *** Directly opposite, on the other bank of the river Elbe (in the Loschwitz district of Dresden) are two other beer gardens - the Körnergarten and the Elbegarten. You sit there nice as well. If you just want a drink, it's all right. For food we personally prefer the Schillergarten.
