1a Travelling from Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegovina) to Zagreb (Croatia)

To travel from Bosnia-Herzegovina to Croatia by train is currently not possible. The last international train connection from Sarajevo to Zagreb was cancelled in 2016. Other international railway lines have been closed for several years. Therefore you have to travel a bus.

There are several bus connections available. To the north from of Sarajevo (8 hours, 25 EUR) and Banja Luka (3:20 hours, 15 EUR) to Zagreb. And to the south from Sarajevo (6:30 hours, 23 EUR) and Mostar (3:30 hours, 18 EUR) to Split and Dubrovnik.

Inside Bosnia-Herzegovina there are train connections available.

1b Travelling from Zagreb (Croatia) to Budapest (Hungary)

Travel from Croatia to Hungary by direct day train. The journey time on the travel route from Zagreb to Budapest is eight hours. Buy saver fare tickets from 19 EUR.

In the summer months, Hungarian railways MAV offer night trains from Split and Rijeka to Budapest.

In Croatia you have a daily night train connection from Split to Zagreb. From Dubrovnik to Split you have to travel by bus as there is no railway connection available.

1c Travelling from Budapest (Hungary) to Prague (Czech Republic)

Travel from Budapest to Prague by direct day train or overnight train. The journey time is seven hours. The ticket price starts at 16 EUR. There are a minimum of 10 train connections available per day. The train route is served by Eurocity trains of MAV and CD and by Regiojet trains. You have these three travel options:

1) Eurocity train by MAV (Hungarian railways) and CD (Czech railways). The journey time is 7 hours. The train ticket price starts at 19 EUR in 2nd class and 35 EUR in 1st class.

2) The Regiojet train with a journey time of 7 hours. The train ticket price starts at 16 EUR in 2nd class and at 25 EUR in 1st class.

3) The overnight train "Metropol" EN476 has a journey time of 11:30 hours. The departure time in Budapest is 19:30. The arrival time in Prague at 08:10. The following service classes are available:

- shared compartments with 6 or 4 beds. The toilet and a wash room is at the end of the corridor. The ticket price starts at 29/34 EUR.

- private sleeper compartments with 3, 2 or 1 bed. The deluxe compartments offer a private shower and toilet. The standard compartments have toilet and shower at the corridor of the wagon. The ticket price starts at 41 EUR for a 2-bed compartment.
