York Castle Museum

The museum shows how people used to live by displaying thousands of household objects and by recreating rooms, shops, streets, prison cells, etc. It is best known for its recreated Victorian street, Kirkgate, which combines real shop fittings and stock with modern sound and light effects, to evoke an atmosphere of Victorian Britain. Sometimes you can also visit special exhibitions in the other main building.

Castle Howard

Castle Howard is an old castle that lies 15miles north of York near Malton that was built during the 17th and 18th century. The garden area around the castle is impressingly huge and offers a beautiful rose garden, lots of statues and fountains and - due to season and weather - there are also boat trips on the lake nearby. Moreover, it is worth visiting the "Temple of the four winds" with its golden ceiling!
