To travel from Vienna to Budapest by train, use of a Railjet train. The journey time is 2,5 hours. Ticket prices start from 14 EUR in second class and from 24 EUR in first class. The saver fares of Austrian railways ÖBB are called "Sparschiene". As earlier you book, as cheaper the tickets are.

1c Travelling from Belgrade (Serbia) to Thessaloniki (Greece)

Travel from Belgrade to Thessaloniki by direct overnight train. The journey time is 16 hours.

Important note: this direct overnight train only runs in the summer months June to September. If the this train is not available you have to travel from Belgrade to Sofia. And from Sofia to Thessaloniki. Please search for these train connections to find details.

The departure time in Belgrade (Topcider) is 18:30. The arrival time in Thessaloniki is 10:30.

The overnight train offers one wagon with seats and one couchette-car with 6 beds per compartment. The couchette-car is recommended. Buy train tickets for 35 EUR. The supplement for the couchette-car is 8 EUR per person. Usually there is enough free seats and berths available even on the day of departure. Ask the train conductor to optimize the occupancy of the couchette compartments if you want to have more space. Just be friendly.

2a Travelling from Vienna (Austria) to Bucharest (Romania)

Travel from Vienna to Bucharest by overnight train. The journey time is 20:20 hours. Train ticket fares start from 49 EUR.

The overnight train "Dacia" (EN347) is comfortable and the recommended way of travel. There are the following service classes available:
- standard seats. Ticket fares from 49 EUR.
- couchettes: compartments with berths for 4 or 6 passengers. Ticket fares from 59 EUR.
- sleeper-wagon: private compartments with beds for 1 to 3 passengers and washbasin. Optional you can book these compartments with private shower and toilet. Ticket fares from 79 EUR for a bed in a 3-persons-compartment. And from 159 EUR for a private sleeper-compartment only for yourself.

2c Travelling from Sofia (Bulgaria) to Thessaloniki (Greece)

Travel from Sofia to Thessaloniki by direct day train. The journey time is 8:30 hours. Buy your train ticket for 35 BGN (18 EUR) at the train station in Sofia.

The departure time in Sofia is 15:00. The arrival time in Thessaloniki is 23:30. There are always seats available therefore it is no problem to buy the ticket at the day of departure.

3b Travelling from Venice (Italy) to Patras (Greece)

Travel from Venice to Patras by ferry. The journey time is 32 hours and the ticket price starts at 90 EUR. The ferry company Superfast Ferries / ANEK Lines serves this route.

You will find these service categories on board of the ferry:

- standard inclinable seats which are the cheapest travel option
- shared cabins with beds: you share the cabin and the shower and toilet with other travellers.
- private cabins: from standard to luxury cabins with private bed, shower and toilet. This is the best option if you want privacy, travel with your family or friends.

The check-in time is two hours prior to departure.

How you get in Venice from the train station to the ferry terminal:
Leave the train station „Venezia Mestre“ on the back side to the South. Walk along „Via Ulloa“ for about 250 meters. At the roundabout you see right hand the bus stop „Giovannacci Ulloa“. The bus line number 16 takes you to the bus stop „Moranzani Elettronica“. The bus departure is hourly to the full hour. It is a journey time of 15 minutes. From the bus stop you have to walk 800 meters to the ferry terminal, see the sign. The bus ticket price is 1,50 EUR and available at a ticket machine or via app. New information says that the bus line 16 also stops directly in front of the ferry terminal at the bus stop „Via Aautostrade del Mare“.

How you get in Patras from the ferry port to the train station:
You will arrive at the „New Port“ of Patras, which is 2 kilometers in the south of the railway station. Either walk within 30 minutes along the promenade or use the bus line number 18 to get to the railway station. It is a journey time of 10 minutes with hourly departures. The bus ticket price is 1,20 EUR. From Patras continue your journey by OSE train to Athens and other destinations in Greece.
In Patras you have a second port: the North Port which serves ferry routes to the Ionian Sea. Take bus line 18 or walk from the railway station within 10 minutes.
