1a Travelling from Timișoara (Romania) to Vienna (Austria)

To travel from Romania to Austria by train, we recommend you a direct night train. You find the exact schedule and ticket prices via our booking links.

It is also possible to split your route. First from your departure place in Romania to Budapest (Hungary). From Budapest you continue by Railjet train to Austria (Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg).

It might be the case that you have to book more than one ticket.
1) First one from your departure place to the place you enter the international train to Austria (Bucharest, Brașov, Sighișoara, Arad, Timișoara)
2) Then for the international train itself.
3) And finally one in Austria if you continue to a smaller place.

1b Travelling from Vienna (Austria) to Munich (Germany)

From Austria to Germany you can travel cheaply by ICE and Railjet trains. ÖBB sells economy tickets ("Sparschiene") from 12 EUR. There are many train connections daily.

On longer distances, we recommend a Nightjet night train. These offer you comfortable overnight travel in a seating car, couchette car or sleeping car. Tickets for the Nightjet start at 29 EUR. In the sleeping car from just 69 EUR.
There are night train connections from Vienna, Innsbruck, Linz and Salzburg to Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin.

1c Travelling from Munich (Germany) to Paris (France)

Travel from Munich to Paris by ICE and TGV INOUI high-speed-trains. The ticket price starts at 39 EUR. The journey times is six hours. There are at least five train connections per day with only one change of trains.

The route consist of more than one step. You have to buy several train tickets.

2a Travelling from Timișoara (Romania) to Budapest (Hungary)

To travel from Romania to Hungary by train, buy your ticket from international ticket offices at stations in Romania or online on the website of CFR. There are a number of offers available, including discounts on regular one-way or return tickets as well as advance saver fares.

You can also buy online tickets from Hungarian Railways MAV START, however online tickets from MAV START have to be printed from ticket machines at stations in Hungary!

International services run mainly from Bucharest either via Brasov - Sibiu/Sighisoara - Simeria or Craiova - Timisoara to Arad and then via the Curtici/Lököshaza border crossing to Budapest. Additional international express trains run from Brasov - Cluj Napoca - Oradea via the Episcopia Bihor/Biharkeresztes border crossing to Budapest.

Where to buy a ticket from Timișoara to Budapest?

Buy the train ticket at a railway station. Note: in some countries you have to pay a service fee at the ticket counter. The ticket can be purchased at a station in the country of departure, also sometimes in other countries.

2b Travelling from Budapest (Hungary) to Zurich (Switzerland)

There are direct train connections from Budapest to Zurich. During the day with the Railjet and overnight with the Nightjet night-train.

The travel time from Budapest to Zurich by train is just 10.5 hours.

Ticket prices for the Railjet start at 44 euros. For the nightjet night train, ticket fares start at 29 euros in the seating car, 49 euros in the couchette car and 69 euros in the sleeping car.

We personally recommend the train connection with the night-train. It saves you a hotel stay and is very convenient and comfortable.

Travel from Zurich to Paris by direct TGV Lyria high-speed-train. The ticket price starts at 29 EUR. The journey time is four hours. There are at least six train connections per day. The trains depart every two hours.

The departure station is Zurich HB. The arrival station is Paris Gare de Lyon.
