1a Travelling from Câmpulung (Romania) to Sofia (Bulgaria)

Travel from Romania to Bulgaria by train. There are two rail connections between Romania and Bulgaria, both cross the Danube on a large bridge. From Giurgiu to Ruse (where the train from Bucharest to Sofia runs) and from Calafat to Vidin.

The tickets are available at the international ticket windows in larger railway stations in Romania. You can also try to book the train tickets on the websites of the Romanian and Bulgarian railway companies. If it is not possible to book your ticket in one step, buy one ticket from Romania to the border station (for example: Ruse) and from there a second ticket for your travel journey in Bulgaria.

1b Travelling from Sofia (Bulgaria) to Skopje (Macedonia)

Travel from Bulgaria to North Macedonia by bus, as there is no direct train connection available. If you want to travel by train, you have to travel a detour either via Serbia or Greece.

Travel by train from Bulgaria via Serbia to North Macedonia: travel from Sofia to Niš. And from Niš to Skopje.

Travel by train from Bulgaria via Greece to North Macedonia: travel from Sofia to Thessaloniki. And from Thessaloniki to Skopje.

The train journey will take much longer. Therefore direct bus connections from Sofia to Skopje might be the best choice for you.
The bus ticket fare from Sofia to Skopje is 15 EUR. The journey time is 4:30 hours.

2a Travelling from Câmpulung (Romania) to Belgrade (Serbia)

If you want to travel from Romania to Serbia by train, the only connection is from Timisoara to Vrsac where two daily trains run. There are connecting trains from many destinations in Romania to Timisoara, including Brasov, Cluj and Bucharest and from Vrsac to Belgrade

Special offers are available for the trip from Timisoara to Belgrade. Buy it locally at a station in Romania. To get to Timisoara you can buy an online ticket from CFR (Romanian Railways) or buy a through ticket from your departure station to your destination in Serbia at a railway station.

2b Travelling from Belgrade (Serbia) to Skopje (Macedonia)

Travel from Serbia to North Macedonia by the overnight train from Belgrade via Niš to Skopje. It is not sure if this train will run in the summer months or not. Other train connections are currently not available. Buy the train ticket at a railway station.

If not train connection is available, you have to travel by bus.

Example train journeys:

- From Belgrade to Skopje: journey time is 10 hours. The ticket fare is 20 EUR. Departure time in Belgrade is 18:35. Arrival time in Skopje is 04:25.

- From Niš to Skopje: journey time is 5 hours. The ticket fare is 15 EUR. Departure time in Niš is 23:20. Arrival time in Skopje is 04:25.
