Sint-Michielskerk

The "Sint-Michielskerk" is a Baroque church in the center of Leuven. It was built between 1650 and 1666 by the architect Willem Hesius. Previously, the present "Sint-Michielskerk" was the monastery church of a Jesuit monastery. Today it is the most famous Jesuit church in Belgium. The western façade is worth seeing - because of the numerous embellishments it resembles an altar. Opening times: 01 April to 30 September: Tuesday to Sunday from 13:30 to 16:30 h

Sint-Pieterskerk

The "Sint-Pieterskerk" is one of the main attractions of the city. It is located on the "Grote Markt", directly opposite the town hall. The "Sint-Pieterskerk" is one of the most important buildings in the Brabant Gothic. The construction began in the 15th century. Previously there was a Romanesque church at this place instead. In the treasury is the triptych "Supper altar" of Dierick Bouts d. Ä. Also worth seeing are the tabernacle of the architect Matheus de Layens and the surviving crypt of the Romanesque predecessor church. Opening times: Monday-Saturday (except Wednesday: closed!) from 10:00 to 16:30 h Sundays and holidays from 11:00 to 16:30 h

Stadhuis

The Town Hall of Leuven is the main attraction of the city. It ranks among the best-known town halls and is an important building of the late Gothic. The town hall was built from 1439-1469 under the direction of architect Matheus de Layens. The facade of the three-floors-high town hall is made up of about 250 niches, in which interesting figures were set-in (eg biblical figures, artists, counts of Leuven, dukes of Brabant, important personalities of the city of Leuven). Daily at 15:00 (except on 01.01. and 25.12.) a guided tour will take place. The price is: EUR 4, with SNCB ticket: EUR 2 (in my case an InterRail Pass was accepted, simply show it!) Open daily from 10:00 to 17:00 h!
