Good to know:

Switzerland has a dense railway network with frequent and reliable trains even on secondary lines. Besides state railway SBB there are numerous private railway all across Switzerland. With Interrail you can travel onboard the trains of the most important private railways, allowing you to discover almost all of Switzerland. Many private railways give 50% discount and only a small number doesn't accept Interrail at all. Besides cities such as Zurich, Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne or Chur you will find some of the most scenic railway lines in Switzerland.

Timetables are available in our schedule planner or the Interrail app which include all trains and timings. You can also check on the national schedule planner.

There are many private railways operating in Switzerland, have a look at our detailed map to see where your Interrail pass is valid, where you get a discount and where Interrail is not valid. While Interrail is valid on most of the larger railways, there are two important exceptions: On Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB), there is only a 50% discount for Youth Interrail pass holders, others have to pay full fare. MGB operates one half of the Glacier Express route, from Disentis via Andermatt and Brig to Zermmat, as well as the short line from Andermatt to Göschenen. Also, Interrail is not valid on the railways in the Jungfrau area - you have to pay full fare for travelling from Interlaken towards Grindelwald, Wengen and Jungfraujoch.
