From here you have a great view of Paris! It is advisable to come to sunrise or late evening to Montmartre, then there a less tourists and the view over Paris is even more fabulous.
If you want to avoid the steep climb, use the Funicular de Montmartre, a funicular for EUR 1.70.
Metro to station, from there the path to the Basilica is well signposted.
