A very special trip and highly recommended in the summer months, is a bike ride to the Old Country ("Altes Land") in the south of Hamburg! In I spring you can enjoy here the wonderful cherry and apple blossom and in summer the fresh fruits , juices, etc. are sold at almost every corner. So you can practically "eat from farm to farm" ! There are cherries, apples , strawberries, pears, gooseberries, etc.
Besides delicious fruits there are also some museums that provide information about the "Altes Land" and its development. Also chic half-timbered houses, churches and mills along the bike paths.

Either you take the HVV harbor ferry to Finkenwerder or the S- Bahn (S3) to Neu Wulmstorf .
Coming from the ferry terminal in Finkenwerder you follow the Neßdeich, along the Airbus sites and the subsequent orchards. Up to Jork it is about 17km. There you can relax in a beer garden or eat an ice cream. Those who want to continue for example to Lühe and get the ferry from there (note: no HVV ferry) to Wedel on the other side of the Elbe and from there back by the S -Bahn to the city center. The route is then about 23km . The information on ferry schedules, farm shops and museums can be found at the links.

PS: if you do not have a bike, you can borrow one from the city bike system Hamburg (see link).
