Ukraine: To travel in Ukraine, you can easily buy train tickets for most long-distance trains online. Many tickets are available as e-tickets however some tickets have to be collected from a ticket office at a railway station. You can of course also buy all tickets locally at a station.

Most long-distance trains are overnight trains with different types of accommodation. On some routes between major cities there are also long-distance train which run during the day with seats only.

UA Ukraine - AZ Azerbaijan

Travel from Ukraine to Azerbaijan by direct train. There are two direct train connections per week from Kharkiv and Kiev (Ukraine) to Baku (Azerbaijan). The journey time is 52 hours. Buy train tickets from 90 EUR.

UA Ukraine - BY Belarus

There are several direct trains between Ukraine and Minsk, running from cities such as Lviv, Kyiv, Odessa and Kharkiv to Minsk. These trains all run overnight and usually consist of different types of sleeping cars. Tickets are available online from Ukrainian Railways or from train stations.

UA Ukraine - GE Georgia

To travel from Ukraine to Georgia, first go by train to Odessa (Ukraine). Take a taxi, mini-bus or bus to the Port of Chornomorsk, 20 kilometres in the south of Odessa. From Chornomorsk continue by ferry via the Black Sea to Batumi. The journey time is about 48 hours. Ticket price starts from USD 110. In Batumi walk to the railway station and continue.

UA Ukraine - HU Hungary

Travel from Ukraine to Hungary by direct overnight train. It is the most comfortable way of travel between Kiev/Lviv and Budapest with a journey time of 22/15 hours.

You can also travel first with a ticket from Ukrainian railways to Chop. Then buy a ticket locally at the train station from Chop to Zahony. And from Zahony a ticket of Hungarian railways MAV to your travel destination. There are several daily trains crossing the border between Chop and Zahony.

UA Ukraine - MD Moldova

Travel from Ukraine to Moldova by direct train. There exist train connections from Kiev and Odessa to Chisinau.

From Kiev to Chisinau the journey time is 13 hours. The ticket price starts from 30 EUR in a couchette and from 50 EUR in a sleeper-wagon. There are three train connections daily.

From Odessa to Chisinau the journey time is four hours. The ticket price starts from 8 EUR. This train connection usually runs on weekends.

There are overnight trains from Kiev to Warsaw as well as from Lviv to Krakow, Wrocław and Warsaw. Additionally a day train runs from Kiev and Lviv to Przemysl.

UA Ukraine - RO Romania

Travel from Ukraine to Romania by direct train. There is one overnight train available from Kiev to Bucharest.

Currently, the only border crossing with international trains between Ukraine and Romania is between Vadul Siret (Ukraine) and Suceava (Romania). There are two daily trains. One runs from Vadul Siret (Ukraine) to Bucharest (Romania). And an overnight train from Kiev to Bucharest which runs once per week. There are local trains from Chernivtsi to Vadul Siret.

Another option to travel between the two countries is the border crossing between Solotvino and Sighetu Marmatiei. You can travel to Solotvino (Ukraine) by night train from Lviv or with local trains from Batovo. Bus connections are available from Rakhiv. Cross the border on foot to get to Sighetu (Romania). From there you can travel with night trains to Timisoara and Bucharest.

UA Ukraine - RU Russia

Travel from Ukraine to Russia by one of the several daily train connections. You can travel by day train or by overnight train on the main routes from Lviv and Kiev to Moscow.

The overnight trains offer 2 and 4 berth compartments. The journey time on the main train route Kiev to Moscow is 13 hours with ticket fares from 60 EUR.

UA Ukraine - SK Slovakia

To travel from Ukraine to Slovakia by train, buy your ticket at a train station. There are no online tickets available. However it is possible to buy an online ticket to Chop and then the ticket across the border locally in Chop at the station.

There are two daily trains between the border stations of Chop and Cierna nad Tisou. One of them conveys the sleeping cars from Kiev and Lviv to Bratislava.

To travel from Ukraine to Turkey, first go by train to Odessa (Ukraine). Take a taxi, mini-bus or bus to the Port of Chornomorsk, 20 kilometres in the south of Odessa. From Chornomorsk continue by ferry to Istanbul. The journey time is about 30 hours. Ticket price starts from USD 80. Arrival in Istanbul is at Haydarpaşa ferry and rail terminal.
