We are a family, two children 5 and 8 years. We are traveling by train from Milan to Sion this summer. We are planning to stop on the way. Do anyone have a recommendation, or where can we find the train route?

Hi and welcome to railcc!

You could go from Milan to Lugano in Switzerland; then travel via Bellinzona to Locarno and take the Centovalli Railway to Domodossola. From Domodossola you could then go via Brig to Sion.

Another option would be to go directly from Milan via Domodossola to Switzerland and maybe make a stop in Brig. You could also make a quick tour from Domodossola to the Centrovalli Railway.

Another option would be to travel via Lugano - Bellinzona and the Gotthard Railway to Göschenen, then travel to Andermatt and from Andermatt along the line of Glacier Express to Brig and onwards to Sion.

Just some suggestions to begin with... :)

Thanks for very helpful advices!

We would like to stop and discover a place in Italy. It could be a small city or countryside. We belive its more value for money in Italy?

Milan is not far from Switzerland so unless you want to make a detour there are not soo many options towards the Swiss border. Maybe look at Bergamo, Monza, Como which are more or less directly on the way to Italy.

Other nice places in the vicinity of Milan are Torino, Verona, the Lago d\'Iseo, Bresica, Mantova,...
