Hi All,

Flying from Cork, Ireland to Milan Bergamo airport in the morning, early flight gets in at around 10 am I think. I am travelling with my girlfriend and we both have Interrail One Country passes for Italy. I am wondering how to get from Milan Bergamo airport to Vernazza, Cinque Terre. We have not reserved train tickets so will we be okay to just hop on a train at the station with our interrail passes? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Mark Sexton.

Hi Mark!

From Bergamo airport you\'ll first have to go to Bergamo train station - there are frequent buses. From there you can take a "Trenord" regional train to Milano Centrale; change here to an Intercity train in direction of La Spezia, Sestri Levante. These normally stop at Levanto, where you change once again for a regional train to Vernazza. Travel time about 4h15.
You can travel onboard the Intercity without a reservation; if you want, you can make a reservation though for 3€. Available online at trenitalia.com - select the train, the choose "Global Pass" offer. As a pass number enter the pass number of your IR passes, although "00000000" works as well. Pickup the reservation at a ticket machine at Milano Centrale (although online print-out might work as well). Alternatively you could probably still get the reservation locally.
I would not recommend travelling with a "Frecciabianca" service from Milano to La Spezia - compulsory reservation 10€ and no gain of time.

If something is unclear or you are looking for a detailed connection just let me know.

Oh...if you had told me that you were travelling at short notice I could have looked up a travel route! :D

What trains did you take? Intercity? With or without reservation?

I think we travelled intercity without a reservation. Had a bit of a fiasco when we forgot to stamp our tickets but it all worked out fine in the end! Travelling to Livorno tonight and getting a ferry to Sardinia in the morning. Thanks for all your help.

Flo, one more thing. We are getting a Moby Ferry tomorrow morning at 08:00 am from Livorno to Olbia. Do you know where we are to get the ferry from? Where in the port does it depart from? If we get a taxi, will they know? Any information greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Mark.

Hi Mark,

regarding the ferry port I can only give you the information from Moby Lines: [ux]http://static.moby.it/porti_en.pdf[/ux]
From looking at Google Maps it is located just "behind" the old town, about 4km from the station - classic ferry terminal being located in the middle of nowhere (for foot passengers). However I am not quite sure where exactly would be the terminal building for check-in.

Regarding stamping your tickets...do you mean your Interrail passes? You shouldn\'t have to do that - this is only needed for tickets bought in Italy (such as seat reservations). I never stamped my pass and was never asked to do so. Interesting anyways... :)
