Hi!

My three friends and I are from the UK and are interrailing this July and were hoping to reserve the night train from Krakow to Budapest. However, there doesn\'t seem to be anywhere to reserve the tickets apart from the official interrail booking service, which is much more expensive than the prices show on here. Are there any other places we can buy tickets and would we be able to get a ticket if we booked at the station a few days before the journey? Travel dates would be 14th july - 15th july

Thanks!

Hi Oberyn (nice nickname...) and welcome to rail.cc!

Unfortunately I dont know of any other online reservation options than either the interrail.eu reservation service or [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux]

You can make the reservation at a station in mainland Europe though; it doesnt have to be in Krakow. Where are you travelling to before you go to Krakow?
It is hard to tell when you should book; the train is quite popular with Interrailers and rail travellers in general so if you want a four bed couchette compartment for your party you might actually consider booking in advance and maybe even go with the reservation service.

Support our work and buy your official Interrail ticket through our partner link: [ux]http://rail.shop/interrail/[/ux] - thank you! :)

OK so your best bet would be to make the reservation in Berlin. In Amsterdam, Dutch Railways also charge booking fees. You could get the reservations in Prague as well of course however I would recommend to get them in Berlin as this would probably be about a week before the night train.

You can decide: either buy the reservations in Berlin or online; what do they charge you for four reservations in a couchette?

Well I\'ve only requested a C6 on interrail reservation and its 61 euro. I suspect 4 sleeper would be about 80 euro? Also the ACP Rail site doesnt show any results when i search for the train. And is the website \'czech transport\' a safe place to buy the ticket. Sorry for all the questions

No problem. ;)
A Bc6 reservation is 13,40€ at a station; when bought in Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary or Bulgaria you should even get a 30% discount on top of that.
Bc4 would be 20€ (minus the possible discount).
Czech Transport should be safe however they have a big markup as well.

Would there still be beds a week/days before the journey?

Well like I said before - the train is indeed popular with Interrailers so it might be a good idea to make the reservation well in advance to have your places guaranteed. This makes sense if you want to travel on a specific date that you already know in advance.

If you have a " plan B " available in case the train would be full then you could easily buy the reservation during your trip in Berlin or Prague. A plan B could be the night train from Krakow to Vienna for instance.

I cant predict whether or not the train will be fully booked on your travel date or when you should make your reservations, sorry. ;)

Hi again!

I\'ve reserved the train and the ticket has arrived, but the couchette numbers are not consecutive. They go 91, 92, 95 and 96, but the ticket says whole compartment T4, so I\'m a bit confused really. Does this mean we\'ll be split up?

This is normal - seat numbers are based on a six-seat compartment: 91 and 92 are the seats at the corridor, 93 and 94 the seats in the middle, 95 and 96 the seats at the window. x1 and x2 are always at the corridorf, x5 and x6 at the window.
In a couchette the same principle applies, with x1 and x2 being the lower, x3 and x4 the middle and x5 and x6 the upper berths. Since you booked a four bed compartment, the middle beds are not in use so you got 91, 92 (lower berths) and 95 and 96 (upper berths) in compartment number 9. ;)

Where did you buy and how much did you pay?

Thank you so much for the help!!!! We just played it safe and went for the reservation service, so it was 80 euros for 4 tickets. Probably could\'ve got it cheaper at the station, but still within our budget so we\'re happy.

OK, enjoy your trip! :)

Would be great if you could write a few lines about your trip afterwards. Dont forget to enjoy the ride through the beautiful Danube valley in the morning between Sturovo (0713) and Vac (0748) with the view of Esztergom Cathedral (on the right hand side). ;)

Got back a few days ago and we had a great time. Trains were a mixed bag; some were comfortable and some had no AC in 30 degree heat. Would definitely recommend getting a night train with beds at least once.
