Hi traintravelers, This september my Interrail trip starts and we\'ll have some questions. I\'m wondering if we have to make a reservation for trains in Italy before we go. For example for Florence to Verona. A reservation is requied, but is it not too late if we make a reservation on the station?

Hi Chantal and welcome to rail.cc :)

Yes, it is possible to buy reservations for Interrail in Italy directly. No need to book weeks in advance. As you have frequent connections on the main routes, you are usually fine to buy your reservation one or two days in advance at a ticket machine or online.

Here you find all trains of Italy (with and without reservation fees for Interrailers): https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it

An example how to reserve online is explained here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/frecciargento/49 - it is more or less the same for ticket machines.

Good to know: it is often possible to avoid the high-speed-trains and use free IC trains (reservation recommended but not required) https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/intercity-trenitalia/47 or free regional trains.

In your case for Florence to Verona:
- high-speed-train / 1:30h / direct / EUR 10
- regional train / 4:00h / 2 changes / FREE

To find connections and live schedules, you can use [ux]https://plan.rail.cc[/ux] - switch the type of trains and remove "ICE" (which is the symbol for high-speed-trains).

If you like all the free information we offer on rail.cc , support it and buy your official Interrail pass via our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interraileu[/ux] - currently with an addition 5% discount [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/interrail-discount/[/ux]
