Hello,

I will be taking a train from Milan to Visp, well, at railcc it says that there is a compulsory reservation of 10 euros. But at the Interrail website it says that EuroCity trains do not require that reservation, but if you wish, you must pay 3 euros. Which information is true?
And, if reservation is compulsory, I should make it at the station (for example, it would be very convenient to do it the day before)?

Hi.
The information on the website you mentioned is wrong!
You have to pay for the direct EC trains from Italy to Switzerland: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/eurocity-it/sbb-ec/65
A reservation is available in Milano Centrale for example.

But why to pay extra... you can use a free regional train until Chiasso and from there continue as well for free.
Example here (it is the connection to Zurich, but it shows how to avoid the EC train): https://rail.cc/en/interrail/milan-to-zurich

And if you want to have a very scenic trip, think about a route like this via Tirano: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/milan-to-zurich
As I don't know if it fits in your route, it's just an idea...

Finally... if you want to support the information here on railcc, buy your official Interrail pass here in the railcc shop. Thank you.

Peter :)

Yeah, thought so, although not very nice from interrail website providing us with this false info.
I have to reach Zermatt before 12 am so Visp is the only possible destination. Thank you for confirmation.

So I've decided to give a go to something different - if weather in Zermatt that day is bad, there's no reason for going there. With my requirement to get a rest in Geneve, arriving there on the late evening, I've thought of Milan - Chiasso - Luzerne. There is one connection - very early (damn! but giving so much time in Luzerne) - leaving from Porta Garibaldi, using S-Bahn, that's free.
But if something happens and I will have to board an EC train in Chiasso, it's free too? I'm using [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] for connection searches, so no reservation icon there for that particular train.

Edit: and now i'm pretty sure these options are free.

Hi.
Instead of bahn.de you can always use [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] - same system, same database, same prices, but railcc. And for every sale there, railcc gets a small commission which keeps the servers running. Thank you.

Concerning your route: like you said, use the local TILO train starting from Milano Porta Garibaldi.
Change to the EC train in Chiasso. NOT already in Como!
As long as you use this EC train within Switzerland, it is free. Only the part in Italy requires the reservation.

Here an example for the route Milan to Zurich ... the beginning of the route is the same for your:
