Does anyone have some information about direct buses from Istanbul to Tehran (and Tehran - Istanbul). Where are they departing from? What is the price? Are there some timetables available (do the buses depart daily)?

I found there are direct buses from Aksaray Square in Istanbul. The ticket price was about 50 USD, But I'm not sure if it's still up-to-date?

there ARE-daily several, and its NOT online-why should that be anyway. Its also faster as the train.
From the giant OTOgar in IST-or the old, but only used for INternational buses Harem- a decent guidebook will tell you.
OTOgar (ANY TR town has one-and they are way larger as the local train stations) in IST is a giant affair with about 10-12 different substations, each serving either a specific company or direction (with several smaller companies).
These will run via Ankara-in TR they will only pick up people-so a near empty bus out of IST does not mean much-it will fill up.
DO make yourself VERY familair with the entry rules that Iran has-they vary with every nation and change very often.
Also: most EU/West Europeans FLY in-as then a visa is much easier to get. Try pegasus for cheap low-cost flites out of SBH=Sabiha, IST 2nd airport on the Asian side.
Its probaly a mix of both TR and Iranian buses. TR buses are always very new Mercedes or OtoMAN, well kept, but have no WC-they stop every 2-3 hrs at a wayside restrt. Often they give you some free small snacks and drinks.
(f.e. IST-Tblisi is done in about 30 hrs and cost about 30/40 eur by season with 4-5 buses daily-most go on to Baky or Erevan-Teheran is a little further away via another route though).

Thanks!
I have already applied for a proper visa and all the beaurocracy things, the only thing I needed was a link between Istanbul and Tehran. So you say the buses to Iran go from Buyuk Otogari (Istanbul Great Main Station)? That would be great, because we have only a few hours to change buses in Istanbul and our previous bus arrives to this station. I only hope the tickets will not be sold out :P
Thanks a lot, nltrainer! :D

Honestly take the train instead to Tehran. Its far more convenient. Take the Ankara -Tehran train if the pendik - ankara is not up and running by now. Otherwise there is bus to Ankara and then you can take the train.

I know people who took the bus and they, if they could wanted to change it to train instead :) .
