Hi guys,
First of all i'll introduce myself.I'm Alex from Spain. :D THough this has nothing to do with Interrail,it has with Austria,so I guess here it's the right place to post it.
I'll be spending next year in Austria in an exchange.As it is a whole year, I'm not in a hurry to pass through the country really fast. I'll have time during some weekends and vacations to go explore.
So what I'd like to ask you is about the tiny towns or villages that I shouldn't miss,and also the ones that have these spectacular views u don't forget in a lifetime.As I have one year,please feel free to give plenty of suggestions,if the villages are worthy a visit. Also,if u know,peaks that are relatively easy to reach or moderately easy,with spectacular views :P I mean that u can hike to the top,not alpinism.

Hi Alex!
First off all, where exactly will you live?
Some places may be difficult to reach if you don't have a car..
If you want to see nice little villages I can recommend you the Salzkammergut and especially Hallstatt (I think it's in every travel guide of Austria :) )
Just have a look:

There are also some beatiful lakes in the Salzkammergut, like the Attersee, the Mondsee or the Traunsee. When you're at the Traunsee you should definitly also visit Gmunden.
What I like most is the Grundlsee, which is a marvelous little lake with a great view

For now I don't know where I'm gonna live,though I hope to know it during this month or the next.ABout the difficulty of reaching without a car,aren't there public transports to these places?Buses,etc.?
I do want to see nice little villages,but also mountains,the towns,etc.
Do you know if there's any hiking route through the Austrian Alps(even if it crosses into Switzerland or Italy or Germany a bit)?One that takes no more than a few days,like 4 or so.Thanks beforehand. ;)
I also wanted to ask if you know any travel guide on Austria,but made in Austria,with lots of information?.I guess the insider guides are better. :o I already know LOnely Planet,but I wanted to know if there's any like that but from AUstria.

Hi,
Are you already member of www.philox.eu? It's a special student site and it's very good for getting information about the places you will stay from other students. And you know, students usually know (in Holland) the best and cheapest places in the city...
About the walking.. maybe you could walk a part of the GR's which are running through a big part of europe i think. Originally it's french, Grande Randonnée.
