Hi there.

Currently in Krakow and travelling with a flexipass interrail ticket.

Travelled to Warsaw from Vienna on the night train, was told would need a reservation but didn't book and found free seats.

Went from Warsaw on the high speed train to Krakow without a reservation and got a free seat and a free drink!

The conductors did not ask for a reservation and we encountered no problems on either trains. We just didn't sit in reserved seats.

Was this lucky twice? Have other people had similar experiences?

We are getting the Krakow - Prague night train tonight and are not planning on reserving a seat again.

Good to hear some other people's views and feedback. Thanks.

Hi!

This is a bit odd but apparently can happen. The international trains from Czech Republic into Poland have compulsory reservation only for travel to or within Poland (officially speaking). Have your tickets been checked in Poland?
Have you been travelling on the new PKP Intercity Pendolino train from Warsaw to Krakow? These should require a 10 PLN supplement/reservation...
Anyway, thanks for sharing and I hope everything went fine on the night train to Krakow too! :)

Hi Flo,

From Vienna to Warsaw our interrail passes were checked in Austria, Czech Republic and Poland with none of the conductors taking a second look at them.

The Warsaw to Krakow train was the express intercity, we just got on the train and when the interrail passes were checked, again the conductor had no issues with them.

I have read some of your previous posts regarding the Krakow to Prague Night Train that 2nd class seating does not require a reservation, is this still the case to your knowledge?

Thanks for replying.

OK thanks. :)
It really could be that since you did not occupy a reserved seat that the conductor didnt bother to check your reservation on the night train.

On Express Intercity trains a reservation is required but free of charge when made at a station in Poland - again, since you obviously were not occupying someones other seat, the conductor wouldnt see your reservation.
BTW, I was travelling from Warsaw to Vienna in January on a EIC and the conductor did want to see our reservations... :)

I have written that you dont need a reservation on the night train to Prague? Where? :)
Normally it should be the same situation as with the Vienna - Warsaw night train: Reservation compulsory for travel to/within Poland.

KRAKOW - PRAGUE (Praha) | night train
Unread postby Flo ยป 14.04.2011 - 00:15
Hi Helen,

buy the reservations at a station. It does not neccesarily have to by at Krakow station, if you are travelling before reaching Krakow you can make the reservations at other larger stations too.

You dont need a reservation for regular 2nd class seats anyway, so you could enter the train without a reservation too. Only for couchette/sleeper reservations are required.

However, as you are a party of four I would recommend a seat reservation to be sure that all four of you are seated in the same compartment.
I cant tell for certain if it is enough to make these reservations the day before but I think the train wont be full on a Thursday. So relax and enjoy. :)

Ah ok...back in 2011 this may have been different. I can check at my old timetables when I will be back home :)

Thanks for the help advice anyway. I'm assuming the official rule is you need a seat reservation but gambling could pay off.

Ill try to remember to report back tomorrow with how it goes.

Yeah, the official rule is that reservation is compulsory in Poland.
