Investigating alternatives for getting from Paris to Frankfurt on May 9th (a scheduled SNCF strike day), it looks like we need the Thalys from Paris-Köln that gets in at 09:15, then catch another train to Frankfurt. But when I look at booking options, I see no option for Eurail, and trying the Pass options listed makes no difference at all to the prices being offered. The price of the tickets as they stand means we may as well fly, what option do I need to select to see the cost for Eurail Pass holders?

The answer was "auf Deutsch" :) - When I logged into my DB account and the language switched to German, the option to book only seat, without a ticket, automagickally appeared. Yay

Yes it is possible to "reserve a seat only" for Euro 4,50.
But you do not need a seat reservation for Köln to Frankfurt. Except if marked as "ICE Sprinter". But there are plenty of free ones.

Anyway, you might just invest the money and have a guaranteed seat. Most ICE trainsets used on this route have a "lounge" area, located directly behind the driver with the possibility of looking the driver over the shoulder. If you tell me with what kind of train you want to travel I can look up seat numbers and whether the lounge is located in the front or back of the train (2nd class lounge on one end of the train, 1st class lounge on the opposite side).

That\'s very kind, Flo, thanks! If we do end up having to do this trip, the only one that fits our schedule is the 09:50 ICE 515 to FRA, then ICE 1559, getting to the Hbf at 11:13

OK - this train consists of two new ICE "Velaro" trainsets which do not have the lounge anymore (and if they had it it would be on the wrong side of the train, facing backwards). So simply reserve any two seats if you want to.
