I am an American living in Germany with my family of 4.

Does our residency make our guests or family members also eligible to use Interrail with us when they visit, or must they purchase Eurail separately?

Hi!

No, your friends or family members would have to buy Eurail [ux]https://rail.shop/eurail[/ux] passes (unless they would establish residency within Europe and can prove this by official governmental issued documents).

The residency status of each individual deciding whether Eurail or Interrail [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] is available.
