The tour by tram number 28 is a MUST for each Lisbon visitor. However, EVERYONE knows this and so it is always crowded.

Torre de Belém

The Belem Tower is located in the Santa Maria at the mouth of the Tagus River and is one of the most famous landmarks of the city. Near the Torre de Belém is the "Monument to the Discoveries" (Padrão dos Descobrimentos).

Ponte 25 de Abril

THE photo motif of Lisbon - the 25 de Abril Bridge over the Tagus. The motorway A2 passes over the bridge. Pedestrians can not cross the bridge, but there is a bus service, you can use. Bus number 753 (as of May 2011) at the big main road, just before the toll cross the bridge. The bus stop is located under the small bridge. The bus runs e.g. to Place the Marques Pombal, there is a metro station. The 3-day-card of Lisbon is also valid from here.

Praça do Comércio

Here begins (or ends - depending on how you look at it -) the Baixa = the lower town. It was rebuilt in the mid-18th century after an earthquake which destroyed the center. The special feature here is the grid-like layout with parallel and perpendicular streets. The former Royal Palace (Terreiro do Paço) was destroyed as well together with the Royal Palace at the earthquake. Here at this point the Praça do Comércio was created at the rebuilding of this area. In the middle of the square is a monument: a cast in bronze with King José I on his horse. In the U-shape arcades around the place various institutions and organizations have their headquarters. Here you will also find a tourist information office. On the south side of the square borders to the Tagus (Tejo). On the north side, direction of Rua Augusta, is a magnificent triumphal arch, which is part of the U-shaped buildings.

Panteão Nacional

Panteão Nacional in Lisbon is a large Baroque church. The actual church (Igreja de Santa Engrácia) was built in the 17th century and on the plan of a Greek cross. The white dome, which gives in my opinion this building its beauty and is also distinctive for the city of Lisbon, was set up very late in the year 1966 (!).
