ZAGREB - SPLIT - train

hey
I have searced for routes between zagreb and spilt in Route Planner, but i did not find some.
My plan is to travel this route 04.07. Can i count on the information you have wroted here about the route between zagreb and split, even touhg they didnt exist in route planner? do you know if its going trains on 4th july? Do i need to reserve on day-trains?

Hi.

It is a problem of the database of the route planer. The Croatian railways data is not available.
Try it directly at their website.
But you can definitely count on all information we have here on the website! :)
Day trains don't need a reservation.

Sorry for the silly question... but it takes aprox 8 hours from Split to Zagreb and on the other hand, from Zagreb to Split only 4???

Hi.
It is always 6-8 hours in both directions. Night trains might be a bit slower so that you have more time to sleep.
But I can' find a connection with 4 hours ?!
Just read the times from the top (Dep=Departure) down to Arr (=Arrival).
Not from the left (Dep) to the right (also Dep).

Be prepared for everything when traveling with croatian trains :D . Night train Zagreb-Zadar travels 12 hours.

i have a question regarding this route. I have checked on the croatian railway website and see the times listed. Now my question is if we are travelling zagreb to split on a day train we dont need to reserve a seat? however if we chose to travel back to zagreb a couple of days later on a night train from split could we reserve a bed at split station??

Hi.

You can reserve a bed either in Zagreb or Split for both directions - this is absolutely no problem.
The same for a seat if a reservation is needed. Better to ask before, but normally seats in day trains in Croatia are free.

Hi Peter,

Both your examples, seem to be Split - Zagreb rather than Zagreb - Split as in your timetables Split is always ontop, which one starts at Zagreb? Or have I made an error!

We caught the 2207 night train from Split to Zagreb a couple of weeks ago.

Our sleeper reservations cost 159.60 kuna per person (approximately £18.50 or €22.00) for beds in a 3-berth cabin. I don't believe that couchettes were available but I may be wrong (we were a group of 3, so having a 3-berth to ourselves was perfect). Very easy to book supplements at the station in Split (one counter for domestic reservations, one for international - very friendly ladies!)

Hey!

We are struggling a bit, since we attempted to book our night train connection from zagreb to split at Krakow & Budapest to no avail. We were told at both locations that we could only book this train at the zagreb station, contrary to what we had done at other railway stations (like book our krakow-budapest train @ budapest!). Anyway, we have booked our Budapest connection to Zagreb which is a day train, but have been told that we can only book the night train which we are planning on getting the same day, at Zagreb. Would anyone be able to tell us whether we can book a reservation online (if so a website address would be helpful too) for this connection or reassure us that we should be ok booking it on the day? Thankyou :)

Hi.
As much as I know this answer is correct. You will have to book it in Zagreb. One night train is with free 2nd class seats, so in case you won't get beds anymore, you can use the seats.

A tad off topic ... But for the Zagreb > Split (Day Train) is a ticket required to be booked a few days in advance or can it be bought on the day of departure at the station before 07:50?

Alternatively can I make the complete booking in Budapest as I am traveling Budapest > Zagreb (2 nights) > Split.

Of course I ask this question to people with previous experience.

If you have the possibility to get the reservation a day or so in advance, get it! Normally I think it should be no problem to get the reservation on the day, but the Zagreb - Split trains are operated by DMU with limited capacity.

You should also be able to do it in Budapest. :)

Hello,

Sorry to drag this thread up again. Just had a few questions about the Split-Zagreb night trains.

Is there anyway to book these online? I can book seats for £2.50 on the RailEur*pe website (although this isn't necessary), but nothing else, I did try the railcc website but that gave me an error (most likely by the user!). As we won't be in Croatia until the night of travel (our previous stops will be in Italy), I'm nervous to risk it until then. Does this train have couchettes? Or two person berths?

We'll be returning on the same train a few days later, so to be able to have it booked up all beforehand would be a great relief as we can get accommodation all sorted too.

Hi,

as far as I know there is no possibility to make reservations for this train online. You might try via the railcc reservation system but I dont think this will work.
I cannot tell you whether it will be possible to book at a station in Italy.

Anyway, as the seats do not require a reservation you might just risk it (and end up in regular seats maybe if the sleeper is booked). In summer, there is a second night train with seats and a couchette car as well..

Cheers for the quick response! I did try the railcc site and it didn't find anything unfortunately, and I think we will be travelling prior to the summer timetable change unfortunately, so it's just the one train.

I may try and e-mail the public relations contact from the train company in Croatia and see what can be done, or for fun we just wait, turn up in Zagreb and see.

I just bought a ticket from split to zagreb to go to budapest and paid 76 HRK for the reservation (10€), the trains between budapest and split are so crowded that you should make a reservation before a day. they say from zagreb to budapest you do not need to make a reservation as it is a regional train which has only seats available instead of couchettes or sleeper cars.

Hey,

I'm really confused about the reservations. I am on the inter-rail reservation service and when I try to find the ZAGREB - SPLIT 23:05 night train it isn't coming up, its not coming up on the rail planner either.

I was wondering can I get on this train with my pass and if so how do I reserve?

It is operated by HZPP (Croatian Railways) and you can of course use it with Interrail.
Reservation for seats is not compulsory; seat reservations are only available locally as far as I know.

Hello,
I also had a quick question about the Zagreb to Split train connection. I read that the price for this portion of the trip (will be coming from Budapest) should be around 24 euros.. however when I search the trip on the online shop, the cheapest option that I see is 64 euros. Is the cheaper price just from when you book tickets at an actual station in Zagreb?

Additionally, if I arrived in Zagreb from Budapest and choose to buy the ticket there for the night train, should I have to worry about not getting a ticket for some reason? I don't know if the tickets sell out, or even if the ticket office would be open so late.

Hi!

I assume you mean the ACP Rail online shop? There you only get more expensive tickets of the international tariff. If you book locally you get domestic tickets which are 197 HRK = 26 EUR one way.
The ticket office is still open in the evening and the train is not fully booked usually.

Anyway, what is your overall route and what kind of ticket do you want to use to get from Budapest to Zagreb?

Hope there is anyone seeing this!
I have planned to take the night train from Zagreb til Split 21/07. The thing is that I am arriving in Zagreb from Bled at 08:51pm the same night. Will there be any possibilities of free seat or beds arriving at that time. As I see it there is 2 train one leaving at 11pm and another one leaving at 12:37am in the night.
What should I do? If not possible... Will there be any chances of a bus at that time?

It wont be a problem to buy a reservation for the earlier night train (this is the domestic night train Zagreb - Split, I wrote about my trip here: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/zagreb-split-night-train/[/ux] at a train station abroad. There should be a ticket desk at Lesce Bled but I am not sure whether they can sell international tickets. Wont be a problem at Ljubljana though. What is your route before going to Bled, you could also buy the reservation in Germany, Austria,...

When I was travelling with this night train last year the couchette car was fully booked but there were enough regular seats unoccupied.

The later night train is the train from Budapest [ux]https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/budapest-split-g1204/132[/ux] and it is likely to be fully booked, at least in sleeper and couchette accomodation.

First Infotmation

There is still a night Train from Zagreb to Split. Leaving Zagreb at 11pm. This website tells this nighttrain service is not active.
You can travel in a Single Slepping Compartment with a ticket for the 2.class. I made this in September 2018
You can book seat and berth reservations in Zagreb until 10pm at Zagreb Main Station.
Another possibility to book reservations is online via ACP Rail [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/reservation[/ux] they use the Swedish CIV-code. The conductor was surprised to see a Swedish Train reservation but everything was ok.
And I could enjoy this trip with a nice view in the morning with a beautiful sunrise and seaview at 6am next to Split.
