Manneken Pis

The "Manneken Pis", often called "Petit Julien", is one of the most famous landmarks of Brussels. "Manneken Pis" is a fountain sculpture in the form of a urinating boy. The only 61 centimeters tall bronze figure was placed in 1619 on the street corner Rue de l'Etuve, Rue des Grands Carmes and Rue du Chêne, very close to the "Grand-Place/Grote Markt". The fountain sculpture was stolen several times. The now existing and visible statue dates from 1965. The fountain figure is costumed regularly. "Manneken Pis" carries for examplee on international soccer matches the jersey of the Belgian national team. Many of the costumes are exhibited in the Brussels City Museum.

Atomium

The engineer André Waterkeyn built the Atomium for the World Expo of 1958. It was initially not intended to keep it after the World Expo. But it was so popular after it, that they kept it like they did with the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The Atomium symbolizes an iron crystal molecule at the level of its atoms in 165 billion times magnification. It is built entirely of steel. From 2003/2004, the Atomium was renovated for over one year and finally reopened on 18 February 2006. It now offers the visitors a tour of new impressions spheres.

Église Sainte-Catherine

The "Église Sainte-Catherine" is a beautiful church in the center of Brussels. It was built between 1854 and 1874 in a docks of the former port of Brussels. Also visit from the inside! Opening times: Monday-Saturday from 09:00-20:00 h Sundays from 09:30-19:00 h Markets are held regularly on the "Place Sainte-Catherine" in front of the church.

Église Saint-Nicolas

The "Église Saint-Nicolas" is located in downtown Brussels, right next to the "Bourse de Bruxelles". The church was consecrated in 1125 and is one of the oldest churches in the city. From the original building, however, is not much left. In 1367 the church collapsed, 1695 it was shot by French troops and in 1714 the church tower collapsed. It is recommended to visit the church from the inside.

The "Eglise du Béguinage" is a Baroque church from 1657, which is located in the center of Brussels. Of particular interest is the pulpit from the 18th century. In addition there are exhibitions in the church.

The "Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert" in Brussels is one of the most impressive shopping malls in Europe. It was opened in 1847 and extends over a length of 213 meters. Today there are mainly luxury shops, but also some cafes.

Cathédrale Saints-Michel-et-Gudule

The "Cathédrale St. Michel et Gudule" is one of the most famous sights of Brussels. It was built in the Gothic style and is the headquarter of the archbishop of Malines-Brussels. The construction of the church started in 1226 and was completed at the end of the 15th century. In 1962, the church was the Episcopal center and so was given the title of a cathedral. In the cathedral takes place important official events, such as state funerals and royal weddings. It is recommended to visit the Cathedral also from the inside. In particular, the glass paintings of the choir windows, some of which date from the 16th century, the apostle statues and the pulpit from 1669, are worth seeing. The "Cathédrale St. Michel et Gudule" is located at the Treurenberg, within walking distance from the train station "Gare Centrale". Opening times: Monday-Friday from 07:00 to 18:00 h Saturdays from 08:30 to 18:00 h (visits only from 08:30 to 15:30 h) Sundays from 08:30 to 18:00 h (tours only available after 14:00 h)
