So even Austria=Oesterreich gots its very own private competitor besides the state-run loss making OeBB. It is named Westbahn and runs nearly every hour Wien-Linz-Salzburg.
NO IR accepted I guess? Just to be sure?
TIP: for those of you to bridge a day on your IR-pass: -Westbahn in its initial period alwys have promotions-as low as 9 eur (weekends) for the whole stretch.

There is also westbus.at- with connecting long-distance buses to feed the trains. This includes very useful routes like Linz-Ceske Budejovice (jump off for that young teener drink beer too muth walhalla of Cesky Krumlov)-Praha. Again many bargains: like now for just 5 eur-if prebooked smartly. This is much, much quikcer as the train on this line. Also a direct link from Salzburg to Munchen airport. These buses are quite good-they are from Blaguss, the biggest and best known AT-buscompany.

Hi.
Thank you for this update.
I asked them again for discounts for Rail Pass travellers and will post the information I get.

They do not accept IR yet, but are working on it (information from their CEO from about one month or so back).

as per 1/1/13 WESTbahn also accepts and sells Interrail. Do not know if that also applies now to EUrail.
