So, did I wait too long to try to buy the DB ticket from Szczecin to Rostock? the DB sight has referred me to a registered travel agent and the online one. Can we buy the tickets at the train station or onboard the train? I saw a warning that it would cost 40 Euros if you board a regional train without a ticket would that still work?

Thanks,

Roger

So, just checked at the Gdansk train station and they assure me that the Szczecin train station will sell me the international ticket but the Gdansk station cannot.
Thanks

Hi Roger and welcome to rail.cc

There are local regional train passes available from German railways Deutsche Bahn. In your case the "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern-Ticket" is your choice.

Available for regional trains from 09:00h in the morning until 03:00 the next morning. For the first person it is Euro 23 in second class (it\'s okay for regional train travel). Up to 5 persons can travel in total. Each additional person is +4 Euro. Means, the ticket price is for two persons 27 Euro, for three 31 Euro and so on.
This ticket is even valid to travel the route from "Szczecin Glowny" in Poland to "Grambow" in Germany (which is on your route).

Connection for you for tomorrow, 29 May 2018

Szczecin Glowny dep 09:00 - RE 4 (5354) in direction Bützow
Güstrow arr 11:53

Güstrow dep 12:14 - S 2 in direction Warnemünde
Rostock Hbf arr 12:43

This connection is available every two hours. See here: [ux]https://plan.rail.cc[/ux]

The ticket itself is available online here: [ux]https://rail.shop/mecklenburgvorpommernticket[/ux]
You can download it as PDF file on your mobile phone - it\'s easy.
Here a map where it is valid: [ux]https://www.bahn.de/p/view/mdb/bahnintern/angebotsberatung/regio/regionale_tickets/2018/mdb_266327_171210_mv_171106.pdf[/ux]

Note: it might be the case that you can also buy it at the ticket window in Szczecin or at a "Deutsche Bahn" ticket machine in Szczecin (not sure if they have one there).

Pete :)

Hi Roger,

thanks for the kind words. :)

When I was in Szczecin last December I didnt see any DB ticket machines, but Peter already told you about the best option.

The MV ticket really is quite nice, since it is also valid in Hamburg, Brandenburg and Schleswig Holstein, so you could actually go from Poland through Germany to the Danish border with just one dirt cheap ticket (and actually quite good connections with regional trains). This means that it is not only valid on the lines shown in the map from Pete. ;)

Do you spend tonight in Szczecin? It is a quite interesting city, I liked it. Try " paszteciki " if you have time...check out Bar Pasztecik in aleja Wojska Polskiego 46. :)

Flo,

Yes, I was just admiring the utility of that ticket ("Mecklenburg-Vorpommern-Ticket" ) . looks like I will be buying another one for travel to Lubeck tomorrow and one for our travel to Denmark at the end of the week.

We spent last night in Gdansk (absolutely a lovely and friendly city) and will leave today for Szczecin. If we miss our tight connection in Szczecin we will try your suggestions . I will update our travel details in the blog later today but, in the mean time, you might think about the interesting way to proceed from Lubeck to to Copenhagen?

Thanks for all your help. You allowed us to have a relatively flexible and very enjoyable vacation that we would not have been brave enough to try without this website.

We will undoubtedly be back to this part of the world on our next big venture and I look forward to it quite a lot.

regards to you all,

Roger

Hi Roger,

hope you had a good trip. Which train/route did you take to get from Gdansk to Szczecin?
Regarding other tickets, these will be called "Schleswig Holstein Ticket" when you buy them in Lübeck. But the conditions will be the same.

To get from Lübeck to Copenhagen the most straightforward way usually is the direct EC (Eurocity) via the Puttgarden - Rodby ferry: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/hamburg-copenhagen-train/[/ux]
Please note that due to construction works in Denmark you will probably have to use a replacement bus service on parts of the route.

Another alternative would be to travel via Flensburg - Padborg - Fredericia - Odense. For both routes I would recommend checking prices for international tickets at [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]

I\'m glad you are enjoying your trip in Europe. There\'s plenty more to see so you should definitely come back. We are always glad to help planning your trip :)
