hello everyone,

me and a mate may be interrailing in summer, looking at north and east europe. the calculator says it should cost next to nothing if we are cheap!
we are planning on spending little on food and living like bums.
for 30 days can it really cost as little as the 650 euros the calculator says?
it seems very very cheap... maybe too cheap...

You have to remember that the calculator doesn't count the price of your pass, so that will be on top of the 650 euro. Besides, the northern countries (scandinavia) are f*cking expensive, so even when you live quite cheap it can become expensive. I think the budget depends on how long you want to stay in scandinavia and how long in eastern europe. Have a nice trip anyway!

probably first time is more expensive but not so expensive..
if you keep up to the basics and act as a traveler and not a tourist ;) it can be that cheap...
but generally it depends on you and your route (eastern europe balkans etc are cheaper than western and northern europe)

mmmh ... 650 Euro for 30 days is 22 Euro per day ... it is really cheap for Scandinavia, but you can do it, when not using hostels. Because hostels are already 25 Euro per night and more in Scandinavia. :))
Such a nice region, but really expensive.
And your ticket is extra like Miro already mentioned !!

After I've paid for my Interrail ticket and return flight, I allow 16 pounds a night for hostels and 14 pounds for eating, train reservations and everything else in Western and Central Europe. I'm extra careful in the first weeks so that near the end I can eat and drink better. You can save accommodtion costs by sleeping in a normal seat on night trains. I reckon it's best to have too much money rather than find yourself starving or having to have money sent from home and turning your trip into a nightmare.

Have an excellent trip

definitely better to have more than enough money i'd say. also pretty vital not to fall into the trap of spending big when you start. you need to land on your feet basically. and save when you can save, for example in a particularly cheap country dont fall into the trap of spending more just because its cheap.
