Hi Djamie.

You have two routes available.
Read here: https://rail.cc/en/train/batumi-to-kiev

Option (2) via Turkey for which you probably won\'t need a visa!? You have to check it at least for Turkey. All other countries should be fine for you.
Batumi to Kars (Turkey) by bus - buy locally.
From Kars to Ankara. From Ankara to Istanbul. Both tickets available online.
Istanbul to Bucharest by night train https://rail.cc/en/night-train/istanbul-bucharest-bosfor/226 - ticket available at the station.
Then from Bucharest to Moldova... by day or night train. Tickets at the station.
And finally from Chisinau (Moldova) to Kiev (Ukraine).
All booking links (if possible) via the link above.

Option (1) is via Russia. there you need a visa. First Batumi to Tbilisi. Then to Baku. From there to Kharkiv (Ukraine) and on to Kiev. Faster... yes. :)

Let me know how you go on... I\'m curious about it! :)

Pete :)

Hi Djamie and welcome to railcc!

If you are feeling even more adventurous there are two other interesting alternatives:

a) take the ferry from Batumi to Chernomorsk/Odesa: [ux]https://rail.shop/ukrferry[/ux] then a train from Odesa to Kyiv: [ux]https://rail.shop/uz[/ux]
b) travel through Abchasia: cross the border from Zugdidi (Georgia) to Gali by taxi (crossing the border on foot); then by train from Sochumi via Sochi to Moscow and finally to Kyiv. However, while this should work in that direction (eg from Georgia to Russia via Abchasia) it is not recommend, especially if you want to return to Georgia at some point. Also, a visa for Russia is required.

The simplest option overall probably would be the ferry in my opinion as you wouldnt have to mess around with visa (I guess, depends on your nationality) and the journey would be really straightforward.

Have fun and let us know about your trip :)

Thank you for the hint to the ferry. I now added option (3) via the Black Sea. :)
