I had some problems with this train last summer:

From Podgorica I wanted to take the day-time train to Belgrade, but I wasn't sure wheter i needed a reservation or not so I asked the staff in the ticket office. The first person i spoke to didn't recognize the IR-pass and told me it wasn't valid, which i knew for sure was wrong. But he insisted and finally discussed it with his colleague, who wanted me to buy some unspecified supplement for 55€. At this point, I was prepared to leave the office and board the train anyway. In the office, four people where now involved in a loud discussion about the IR-pass, and a english-speaking guy informed me I just needed a (compulsory) seat reservation. All this was very confusing, I got three different answers and regretted asking them in the first place.

Eventually, the train arrived and I boarded without a reservation, which was fine. But the train was full with serb families returning home from their mediterranean vacation so i had to stand up for some five hours, missing all the scenic views of Montenegro, which were best viewed from inside the compartment windows.

So, I advice everyone to get a reservation in high-season. I know this is common sense for many european trains in summer. But on this one, you don't want to miss out on the truly amazing views the ride offers. (I forced my way in to a crammed compartment just to enjoy the views for a moment, it was totally worth it)
And don't believe whatever the staff at Podgorica's railway station tell you!

I'm in Zagreb right now and I wanted to book a reservation from bar to Belgrade but the lady told me that due to fights between montenegrans and Serbs they often shut that route down and right now she couldn't see the route on her system ...
I was basically planning to take a night train from bar to Belgrade and then take the 10:00 train that very day from Belgrade to Budapest. I need reservation for that day train.. But I don't know if I should get it seeing that I can't be guaranteed that train wi go frombar to Belgrade.
Anyone got any suggestions or maybe any updates regarding the bar-Belgrade train.
I want to avoid using buses because I've already spent a good 70 euro on it and it defeats the purpose of buying an inter rail ticket.

Hi.
As much as I know the trains are running.
Maybe the lady was just unable to make the reservation with her system?!
