A couple of us are travelling to Europe in Jan 2017. We were looking at getting the 4-day Eurail pass between Portugal-Spain. Are they valid on the trains from Lisboa - Madrid and from Madrid - Barcelona.

The train from Lisboa- Madrid is a night train, so will we have to make reservations and will it cost extra? If so how much and how do we make reservations ?

Hi and welcome to railcc!

The Eurail pass is valid on the night train from Lisbon to Madrid as well as on all trains from Madrid to Barcelona.

In Portugal, the Eurail pass is not valid on Fertagus suburban services between Lisbon and the suburbs south of river Tejo: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/eurail-train-company/portugal/pt[/ux]
In Spain, the Eurail pass is valid on all these companies: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/eurail-train-company/spain/es[/ux]
RENFE is the principal operator of all long distance traffic in Spain so you are covered with your Eurail pass. :)

Read more about the journey with the Lisbon to Madrid night train here: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/night-train-irun-madrid-lisbon/[/ux]
A reservation is compulsory: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/eurail-night-train/lisbon-madrid-th-335/72[/ux]
Reservations are available either via ACP Rail or locally at a train station (see description in link above).

From Madrid to Barcelona you can travel with the AVE high speed trains: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/eurail-train-reservation/ave-renfe/23[/ux]
There are usually two trains per hour during the day. Reservation compulsory; buy either locally at a station or online (see link above).

If you have more questions about your journey please ask. :)
