I cannot see a bike compartment option listed on many of the direct trains from Strasbourg to Paris. Does this mean we will not be allowed to take our bicycles on the train?

Hello,

yes, the TGV trains Strasbourg-Paris do not allow bicycle transport. So you\'ll have to use the regional (TER) trains. From Strasbourg to Nancy and further to Châlons-en-Champagne and Paris. This is long and requires several changes and takes at least two days (!) because the time table is constructed to force people to take the TGV. In the TER trains the bicycle is free of charge.
The alternative is to remove the wheels of the bicycle and to put it in in a transportation bag or carton. Or you can take the nightbus (flixbus) from Strasbourg to Paris, but you have to ask for bicycle transport during your internet-booking. This is possible, but seem to be quite expensive.

Have a nice journey

I\'m afraid this information isn\'t quite accurate. The TER-only connection through Nancy and Bar-le-Duc takes around 7.5 hours, the connection through Mulhouse, Belfort and Dijon takes around 8.5 hours. It\'s entirely doable in one day. You can double check at http://plan.rail.cc , select "More mean of transport", then check "Only local transport".

Have a nice trip!

Thanks for the info. In fact we have just completed the journey by going via Mulhouse from where there are two direct TER services to Paris every day (07.45 and 15.18 ) which take 4.5 hours. They allow fully assembled bikes on these trains but they cannot be reserved so its a bit of a lottery (as far as I could tell there was space for 2) but we were lucky.

Hello,

if you start in Mulhouse there is no problem, but the TER 200 between Strasbourg and Mulhouse do not allow bicycle transportation monday to friday (working days) from 6:00 to 8:00 in the morning and from 16:00 to 18:30 in the late afternoon.

cheers

Julian
