We will have one visit in Switzerland and we are currently planning on going to Lucerne. We were wondering if Geneva, Zurich, Berne or Basel are recommended more highly than Lucerne.

The main deciding factor for us would be things to do in the city and nice views.

Thanks

Hi.
Lucerne is definitely a good place. Photos and information here: https://rail.cc/blog/lucerne-and-mount-rigi/
And an interesting route to travel is this one: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/

How long are you going to visit Switzerland, and more over, what do you want to see!
Are you only going to visit a city, or do you want to see some of the scenic railroutes on the way. Switzerland has a lot to offer :)
Luzerne is definitely a good place to stay over most of the others. If you get nearby, Geneva is very nice as well (and cities around like Montreux).

Hi Kyle
With respect to Swiss cities, yes, Lucerne is definitely a good place to visit, but Zurich, Berne and Basel are also very interesting. All are good for at least a day’s walking although Berne is quite hilly in parts.
Interrail pass holders get a 50% discount on the SGV boat services on Lake Luzerne – a beautiful mini-cruise with lunch available on board. The boats depart from the wharf immediately opposite the main entrance of the Bahnhof.
InterRail passholders also receive a 50% discount for ZSG boat services on Lake Zurich. You would need to check that these benefit is still available. Lunch is also available on board these boats too. These boats depart from the Burkliplatz wharf at the southern end of Bahnhofstrasse.
Cheers
Richard
