Hi,
I was wondering how is the best way to purchase train tickets to get from the cities mentioned below?
Prague to Vienna
Vienna to Budapest
Budapest to Salzburg
Salzburg to Munich
How much would it be for a family of 5? What is the cheapest option available?
We will be in those cities for a combination of 13 days.

Prague to Vienna: Buy at [ux]http://rail.shop/cd[/ux] - prices depend on day of travel and how much in advance you book; cheapest fares are called "First Minute Europe".
Vienna to Budapest: [ux]https://rail.shop/oebb[/ux] prices vary as described above; cheapest fares are called "Sparschiene"
Budapest to Salzburg: [ux]http://rail.shop/mav[/ux] prices vary as described above; cheapest fares are called "Sparschiene Fortuna"
Salzburg to Munich: either buy advance fares as described above (Sparschiene or Sparpreis) at either [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] or [ux]https://rail.shop/oebb[/ux] or buy tickets for the local trains directly in Salzburg at the ticket machine. "Guten Tag Ticket" is 23€ for one person, 6€ extra for the second person, 6€ extra for the third and so on...children up to 14 years are free. I would recommend to buy tickets for the first three legs in advance via the links I posted. That way you will get the cheapest fares. From Salzburg to Munich you can choose between either buying the ticket locally and use the slightly slower regional train or book your train in advance for one of the faster long distance trains.

To travel with these saver tickets is always a good choice. I usually do it the same way. As if you travel a planed route with booked hostels and hotels [ux]https://rail.shop/bookingcom[/ux] , you train routes and times are also fixed. Just one nice additional trip available from Munich is to Castle Neuschwanstein, which you can travel very inexpensive as family using the "Regio-Ticket Allgäu-Schwaben" or "Bayern Ticket", available locally at ticket machines - no need to pre-book.
