I am planning a trip from London to Aarhus in July 2017, returning to London in August 2017. I have done a similar trip before using either Interail or Eurorail card. I wonder whether it would be cheaper to buy a direct return ticket. This is the first time I have used this website - so I am using this question to get a feel for the site.

If you are going to spend more than one month in Aarhus than it won\'t make sense to go with Interrail at all. The cheapest Interrail pass that would be valid one month is the 7 in 1 month pass: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/interrail-global-pass[/ux]
It would be valid 31 days in your case, for instance from 16 July to 15 August. You will need additional reservations for the Eurostar to travel from London to the continent and back: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/eurostar/78[/ux]
An alternative would be the ferry: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/london-amsterdam-train-ferry-dutchflyer/[/ux] however it won\'t be cheaper as the Eurostar - but you could take the overnight ferry and gain money and time because you would save a hostel/hotel night.

If the Interrail option doesn\'t suit your travel plans (because you would stay in Aarhus more than one month) you should look at regular tickets.

However, you will see that there is only one connection available where you can go from London to Aarhus within one day.
If that is too long and you would prefer to make an overnight stay somewhere along the way, I recommend to make two separate bookings: One from London to any city where you like to make that changeover (I recommend somewhere mid-way, for example around Cologne in Germany) and another from there to Aarhus.
For the first booking you could use either Omio, or book directly at Belgian Railways [ux]https://rail.shop/beurope[/ux], Dutch Railways [ux]https://rail.shop/nsinternational[/ux] or German Railways [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux].
For the second leg you can also get your ticket to Aarhus from these railway companies.
If money is an issue I recommend to use [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] and play around with the options - for instance deselect the "ICE/high speed trains" button and travel with IC/Intercity trains only which often is cheaper.
