This site says the connection is available and directs me to the CFR site to book a ticket. But the destination city Sofia cannot be found in the CFR website. Can anyone help with information of such a daytime ticket on Apr 29. Thanks a lot in advance.

CFR does not sell international tickets online. You can simply buy your ticket locally in Bucharest Gara Nord: [ux]https://rail.cc/en/bucharest/bucharest-north-railway-station/l246[/ux]

Thanks. You meant normally tickets will still be available at the train stations just 2 days before travel?

Yes.
In Eastern Europe it is common to buy tickets locally at short notice. It isnt necessary to book in advance as on most routes (such as on Bucharest - Sofia) there are no special advance fares available and trains dont "sell out". :)
