Hello
Some questions about Turkey.
How to get across that channel in Istanbul? Is there a railway bridge or smth?
After that we will try to catch this train
www.tcdd.gov.tr/yolcu/dogu.htm

What about supplement on this one?

Is it running very late or just slightly?

Is it scary generally? Air-conditioning included? :D

Hi there!

this timetable u shown doesnt give enough information (for me at least)

from where to where exactly in Turkey u wanna go? if you can tell me these, i think i would be helpful.

for safety, dont worry about anything, if Tr isnt as safe as other countries above, it wont be included in the interrail.

and for being fast, Tr trains arent so fast, but thats an adventurous journey, so u should better take it for fun :)

anyway, u can pm or add me in msn for more and helpful info.

I've just registered to this forum therefore I hope , I'm not that late for an answer to your question. For safety, do not even worry about it. Believe me it is safer than many places around the world and please note that I stayed in USA, France and Tunisia more than 3 months and have a kind of international safety experience :) In Istanbul there are 2 bridges on the Bosphorus( the thing that you named as channel :) ) and also even an underwater tube for railway connection of the Asia and Europe, but it will be finished in 2 years so forget about it :) Ihus wanna let you know, your route gets very slower after The Turkish Capital, Ankara. It is really long way, just be ready for the long hours. Another thing is that there is no border with Georgia in Kars, so you must go to Artvin-Hopa for passing to Georgia ;) Any questions? Just let me know ;) It'll be a pleasure for me to answer..Good Luck on your journey ;)

The only thing that I know about the train that you will take is that the train has 2nd class seating, therefore there supposed to be no supplement for interrail tickets. You can find more information on www.tcdd.gov.tr (Turkish State Railways Home Page). It has an English version too and I think this is the info for your train ( www.tcdd.gov.tr/tcdding/trendogu_ing.htm )
In addition to this, there are coaches operating from Kars to Artvin-Hopa. You can use coaches. I also advise you to stay in Kars at least 2 days. It is a nice small city with a rich Russian-Turkish-Armenian mixture of history. You'd better visit Ani Ruins in Kars, it is a great historical place to see. Still has any questions? Still ready to answer ;)
