Ljubljana - Plitvice Lakes - Budapest

Hi I wanted to find out what's the most efficient way to get to Plitvice Lakes from Ljubljana, spend a day there and perhaps if possible a night train to Budapest in the evening.

are you tied to trains or flexible?
As those lakes are NOT in SLO but in nearby HR=Hrvatska (Croatia), the usual anywhere in this world is, that local=domestic links are FAR better as international. In fact the entry to those lakes is only by bus-frequent, the Zagreb-Split line (though some are super express and wont go off the motorway there).
Now I think you are smart enough yourself to work out how to get Ljub->Zag. You can choose between on iron or on rubber.
