When you buy your Interrail ticket, ask for a plastic envelope to put it in.

My friend got one, I didn't. After almost 4 weeks of travel all over Europe, mine was falling into pieces, while hers still looked very good.
Of course, at the time I bought mine, I never would have thought of it, and when you don't know, you never will ask.
The reason for this is very elemental and basic: Sweat. You will sweat, especially if you travel through Southern Europe, in the summer, and especially so if there is a heatwave going on. I sweated a lot, through the moneybelt and making both passport and ticket wet and, well, quite ugly and smelly.

So get that plastic envelope. The interrail ticket is nice to keep later in life, reasonably goodlooking.

... and do not forget to ask for the white sheets at the end of the ticket in which you have to write down your route during your travels ...! :)
