1a Travelling from Trondheim (Norway) to Oslo (Norway)

There are two daily direct trains from Trondheim to Oslo: one during the day and one night train.

In peak season, the trains is sold out very fast (especially the night train).

The journey time is about seven hours.

To travel by train from Oslo (Norway) to Stockholm (Sweden) you have direct train connections by Snabbtag/X2000 high-speed-trains.

The journey time is five hours.

1c Travelling from Stockholm (Sweden) to Helsinki (Finland)

To travel by ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki, book a direct overnight ferry. The daily departure time in Stockholm is in the late afternoon. The arrival in Helsinki in the morning.

If you want to travel by a cheaper ferry or during the day (not overnight), you have to take a ferry route from Stockholm to Turku.

1d Travelling from Helsinki (Finland) to Saint Petersburg (Russia)

Travel from Helsinki to Saint-Petersburg by the direct Allegro trains.

The journey time for the 443 kilometres between Finland and Russia is about 3.5 hours. Train tickets are available from Euro 70 in 2nd class. There are at least three connections per day.

1e Travelling from Saint Petersburg (Russia) to Moscow (Russia)

From Saint Petersburg to Moscow you can travel by Sapsan high-speed train or by night train. The fastest travel time on the Sapsan train is 3:30 hours. The night train takes 8 to 9 hours. There are 20 to 25 direct train connections daily. Buy your train ticket from 30 EUR. You can find these train tickets as well as the exact timetable via the given booking links.

Traveling by night train is very interesting, as many comfort categories are offered: from a simple seat to a luxury sleeper cabin.

2 Trondheim (Norway) - Narvik (Norway) - Luleå (Sweden) - Kemi (Finland) - Helsinki (Finland) - Moscow (Russia)

The route consist of more than one step. You have to buy several train tickets.

2a Travelling from Trondheim (Norway) to Narvik (Norway)

To travel in Norway by train with VY or another operator, please buy your train ticket online via one of the following booking links. There you find exact schedules and ticket prices. Advance fares (Minipris) can be considerably cheaper compared to full fare tickets.

For connections along the coast and in the far north you have to go with buses. For example from Bodö/Fauske to Narvik, to the Lofoten or from Narvik to North Cape. Narvik is connected by train from Sweden.

2b Travelling from Narvik (Norway) to Luleå (Sweden)

For your train journey from Norway to Sweden, there are three main routes available. In the south from Oslo (Norway) in direction of Gothenburg (Sweden). In the middle from Trondheim (Norway) to Östersund (Sweden). And in the north from Narvik (Norway) via Abisko (Sweden) and Kiruna to Luleå and Stockholm

The best route depends on your departure station in Norway. Use the given booking links to find your perfect travel route, schedules and ticket prices. If you book early, you will find attractive saver fares.

Both countries offer very good long-distance train connections. In the North of Norway between Bodø/Fauske and Narvik, no train connection is available. Take the bus for this journey.

2c Travelling from Luleå (Sweden) to Kemi (Finland)

Travel from Luleå (Sweden) to Kemi (Finland) by a combination of train and bus. The distance is about 150 km. The journey time is three hours.

To Luleå you have train connections from northern Sweden (Kiruna, Abisko, Narvik, Lapland) and the south (Stockholm, Gothenburg).

Take the train from Luleå to Haparanda which is operated by "Norrtåg". The journey time is 1:50 hours. The train ticket fare is 200 SEK (20 EUR).

Optional if no train connection is available, take the bus of "Länstrafiken Norrbotten" from Luleå bus station to Haparanda. The ticket price is about 20 EUR. Buy the bus ticket at the "Länstrafiken Norrbotten" website. Select as departure "Luleå Busstation" and as destination "Haparanda Tornio Resecentrum LTN". It is just a short walk of 5 minutes from Luleå railway station to the bus station.

In Haparanda you change to the bus in direction of Kemi. The ticket price for Haparanda to Kemi is about 6 EUR. The bus connection runs every hour. Buy the bus ticket at the Matkahuolto website. Select as departure "Haparanda-Tornio [NB. Finnish time]" and as destination "Kemi railway station".

In Kemi you have connections by train to the north (Rovaniemi) and to the south (Tampere, Helsinki, Turku).

2e Travelling from Helsinki (Finland) to Moscow (Russia)

To travel by train from Finland to Russia, you have these two options:

1) the direct day train "Allegro" from Helsinki to St.Petersburg. There are 5 trains per day on this route. The journey time is about 3,5 hours. Tickets are available from 70 EUR.

2) the direct overnight train "Tolstoi" from Helsinki to Moscow. The journey time is about 15,5 hours. tickets are available from 180 EUR.

Helsinki is well connected to the Finish railway network, also by night trains from the north of Finland.
