Tickets for domestic travel are best bought locally at a station but can also be purchased only for most domestic routes on the website of HZ (Croatian Railways). Advance fare tickets for international travel are currently available locally only.

2a Travelling from Split (Croatia) to Ljubljana (Slovenia)

If you want to travel from Croatia to Slovenia by train, buy your ticket locally at a train station in Croatia. There are several discounted tickets available, for instance the Ljubljana Spezial from Zagreb to Ljubljana: single 9€, return 18€. Tickets are not available online, only at stations.

There are several railway lines between Croatia and Slovenia, the most important being the main line from Zagreb to Ljubljana via the Savski Marof/Dobova border crossing. Here you will find several international express trains. Other major international lines run from Pula to Ljubljana and from Rijeka to Ljubljana.

2b Travelling from Ljubljana (Slovenia) to Villach (Austria)

Tickets are available online from Austrian Railways (ÖBB), however they have to be collected at a station in Austria (ticket machine or ticket desk) before the journey. You can of course also buy tickets locally at a station in Slovenia.

There are two main border crossings with several direct trains: From Ljubljana via Maribor to Graz and Vienna and from Ljubljana via Bled to Villach, from where you can go to either Vienna or Salzburg and Innsbruck.

2c Travelling from Villach (Austria) to Zurich (Switzerland)

To travel from Austria to Switzerland by train, use one of the frequent train connections. The direct Railjet trains offer as well discount tickets.
