To travel by train from Hendaye in France to Lisbon in Portugal you will have to use a night train. Two tickets are required: one from your departure station in France to Hendaye/Irun. And one for the night train from Irun to Lisbon. If you want to continue your travels in Portugal, buy another ticket of CP from Lisbon to your destination.

1a Travelling from Hendaye (France) to Irun (Spain)

To travel by train from France to Spain, use first one of the direct high-speed trains from France (Paris) or southern France (Marseille) to Barcelona. There you change to your destination in Spain. Another option is to cross the border at Irun/Hendaye and to continue from there to your destination in Spain. Please use the following booking links to find schedules and ticket prices. 1b Travelling from Irun (Spain) to Lisbon (Portugal)

There are only two rail links between Spain and Portugal: the night trains from Madrid and Irun to Lisbon and the Celta trains in the north from Vigo to Porto. There is no rail connection in the south, when travelling between Sevilla and Faro we recommend to take the direct bus instead.

New is the day train connection with changes between Madrid and Lisbon.

Train tickets are available online via our partner ACPRail or directly from RENFE. International tickets from Spain to Portugal are not available directly from CP (Portuguese Railways).

2b Travelling from Barcelona (Spain) to Madrid (Spain)

To travel from Barcelona to Madrid by train, you will use an AVE high-speed-train of RENFE. The journey time is only 2:30 hours for the distance of 620 kilometres. Second class tickets are available from 40 Euro and first class tickets from 55 Euro. There are frequent connections available, at least every hour. The departure station in Barcelona is called "Barcelona Sants". The arrival station in Madrid is called "Madrid Atocha".

2c Travelling from Madrid (Spain) to Lisbon (Portugal)

To travel by train from Madrid to Lisbon, make use of the direct "Lusitania" night train. It is the most comfortable way to travel. Tickets are available from EUR 25. The journey time is about 10 hours. Tickets are available at the given booking links.
