1b Travelling from Berlin (Germany) to Moscow (Russia)

Tow direct long-distance night train connect Germany with Russia.
One train is coming from Paris with stops in Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Frankfurt and Berlin. The second starts from Berlin. Both trains run via Warsaw, Brest and Minsk to Moscow - and return. They do not run daily.

If you want to travel by train from Russia to Azerbaijan there are two direct trains per week between Moscow (Russia) and Baku (Azerbaijan). The journey time for this route is about 53 hours.

2a Travelling from Frankfurt am Main (Germany) to Warsaw (Poland)

To travel from Germany to Poland by train, have a look at the discount tickets available from Deutsche Bahn (German railways). They offer special price tickets starting from Euro 39 from Germany to selected stations in Poland (for example to Warsaw). These advance fare tickets ("Sparpreis Europa") offer very attractive fares and are valid for direct routes (via Berlin to Poland) or via the Czech Republic. Please use the following booking links to find schedules and ticket prices. If you want to travel to a city in Poland where no special price ticket is offered online, buy first the discount ticket of German railways from Germany to Poland online. Followed by a ticket in Poland (online from Polish railways or locally at the station) to your destination. Ensure to plan with enough time for changing trains to cope for possible delays!

2b Travelling from Warsaw (Poland) to Kharkiv (Ukraine)

To travel from Poland to Ukraine by train, buy your ticket at a train station in Poland. There are no online tickets available for international journeys. There are night trains from Warsaw to Kyiv as well as from Warsaw, Wroclaw and Krakow to Lviv. All of these trains cross the border in the night. There is also a train during the day, running from Przemysl to Lviv and Kyiv.

2c Travelling from Kharkiv (Ukraine) to Baku (Azerbaijan)

To travel by train from the Ukraine to Azerbaijan there are two direct trains per week between Kiev or Kharkiv (Ukraine) and Baku (Azerbaijan). The journey time for this route is about 52 hours. Ticket price starts from about Euro 90.

Train tickets for the journey from Ukraine to Azerbaijan are available via Ukrainian Railways and at train stations.

3b Travelling from Budapest (Hungary) to Bucharest (Romania)

To travel from Hungary to Romania by train, buy your train tickets online from Hungarian Railway MAV START. They offer a variety of discounts for one way and return journeys as well as the cheap advance fare "Fortuna" tickets. Online tickets from MAV START have to be printed from ticket machines at stations in Hungary! Of course you can buy all tickets at international ticket desks at stations in Hungary as well.

International services run mainly from Budapest via the Lököshaza/Curtici border crossing to Arad and from there either to Timisoara and onwards to Craiova and Bucharest or via Simeria - Sibiu/Sighisoara - Brasov to Bucharest. Additional international express trains run via the Biharkresztes/Episcopia Bihor border crossing to Oradea - Cluj Napoca - Brasov.

3c Travelling from Bucharest (Romania) to Istanbul (Turkey)

To travel from Romania to Turkey by train, buy your train ticket locally at a train station in Romania. There are no online tickets available.

The only direct rail connection between the two countries is the line via Bulgaria and the Svilengrad/Kapikule border crossing to Istanbul. Currently the night train from Bucharest and Sofia to Istanbul is the only service across the border.

In addition to this night train there are many bus connections available. These buses are quicker if you are travelling for example from Burgas (Bulgaria) to Istanbul.

3e Travelling from Kars (Turkey) to Batumi (Georgia)

If you want to travel from Turkey to Georgia only by train, you have to make a detour via Russia. Therefore a bus connection from Turkey to Georgia is a much faster option.

One bus line is from Trabzon (Turkey) to Batumi (Georgia). At least four connections daily for about EUR 15. From Istanbul (Turkey) to Batumi (Georgia) at least two connections daily for about EUR 25.
Trabzon (Turkey) is not connected to the railway network of Turkey. Therefore the easiest way is to take a bus directly from Istanbul or Ankara (Turkey) to Batumi (Georgia). Buy your bus ticket for Metro Turizm online.

An other option is to travel by train from Istanbul and Ankara to Kars (Turkey). And from Kars (Turkey) to Batumi (Georgia) by bus.

In Batumi (Georgia) change to a train to continue to Tbilisi (Georgia).

Border crossing is currently: you leave the bus with the luggage before the border, cross the border by foot (easy) and after the border the bus picks you up again.

In future there will be a train connection from Turkey to Georgia. But it is still under construction.
