To travel by train from Berlin in Germany to Helsinki in Finland, the main route is via Hamburg to Copenhagen (Denmark). There you cross the Öresund Bridge to Malmö (Sweden) and continue to Stockholm. Try to get an Europa-Spezial of German railways Deutsche Bahn for this first part. If not possible, book first Germany to Copenhagen via Deutsche Bahn. Then via SJ from Copenhagen to Stockholm.
In Stockholm you change to the ferry to Finland: either to Turku (cheaper) or Helsinki. From there you continue with a ticket of VR.
As overnight stay you can use the night train Malmö to Stockholm and/or the ferry Sweden to Finland.

To travel by ferry from Stockholm to Turku, book the direct day or night ferry. One daily departure in Stockholm at morning and one at evening. The journey to Turku takes about 10 hours.

The Stockholm to Turku ferry is usually the cheaper one (especially the day connection) compared to the Stockholm to Helsinki ferry.
