1b Travelling from Istanbul (Turkey) to Sofia (Bulgaria)

If you want to travel from Turkey to Bulgaria by train, buy your train ticket locally at a train station in Turkey. The best option is to buy it at the Sirkeci station in Istanbul. You will find international ticket counters at the train stations of larger cities. There are no online tickets available.

The only rail connection between the two countries is the line from Istanbul via the Kapikule/Svilengrad border crossing. Currently the night train from Istanbul to Sofia and Bucharest is the only service across the border.

1c Travelling from Sofia (Bulgaria) to Skopje (Macedonia)

There is no direct railway line between Bugaria and Macedonia. If you want to travel between the two countries by train, you will have to travel either via Serbia or Greece to do so.

If you travel via Serbia, travel from Sofia to Nis, then from Nis to Skopje. If you want to travel via Greece, you have to travel from Sofia to Thessaloniki then from Thessaloniki to Skopje.

However as both options require many hours of travelling you might instead choose to go by bus. Buses are available from Sofia directly to Skopje and are much quicker than the available options by train. Buy your ticket locally at the bus station.

1d Travelling from Skopje (Macedonia) to Peqin (Albania)

There are no train connections between Macedonia and Albania. However, there are direct buses available, for instance between Skopje and Tirana.
