In the summer months, Hungarian railways MAV offer night trains from Budapest to Rijeka and Split.

In Croatia you have a daily night train connection from Zagreb to Split. Dubrovnik is only accessible from Split by bus.

1b Travelling from Zagreb (Croatia) to Visoko (Bosnia-Herzegovina)

To travel from Croatia to Bosnia-Herzegovina by train is currently not possible. The last international train connection from Zagreb to Sarajevo was cancelled in 2016. Other international railway lines have been closed for several years. Therefore you have to travel a bus.

There are several bus connections available. In the north from Zagreb in direction of Banja Luka (3:20 hours, 15 EUR) and Sarajevo (8 hours, 25 EUR). And in the south from Dubrovnik and Split in direction of Mostar (3:30 hours, 18 EUR) and Sarajevo (6:30 hours, 23 EUR).

Inside Bosnia-Herzegovina there are train connections available.

2a Travelling from Biharkeresztes (Hungary) to Belgrade (Serbia)

Travel from Hungary to Serbia by direct train on the route from Budapest to Belgrade.

There are saver fare tickets available from 15 EUR.

2021: the direct route Budapest to Novi Sad and on to Belgrade is under construction. The best option is to travel by train from Budapest to Zagreb and from Zagreb to Belgrade if you want to avoid changes and buses.

2b Travelling from Belgrade (Serbia) to Visoko (Bosnia-Herzegovina)

There are currently no trains operating between Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Instead you have to travel by bus.

There are frequent buses running between Belgrade and Sarajevo as well as on other routes. The ticket price from Belgrade to Sarajevo starts from 15 EUR. The journey time is about 7 hours.
